Anthony Crawford
Tony’s PSSA Mass Build 2020 - F- 86 North American Sabre.
Anthony Crawford
My chosen colour scheme is to replicate the USAF(E) display team “The SkyBlazers” based in West Germany during the 1950s. I do appreciate that Martyn K is also building an aircraft from the same display team but is happy for me to continue my build. This will be my first attempt at building a PSS model. Anthony Crawford
Chris, thanks very much for your kind welcome and I am looking forward to the building process. Tony.
Anthony Crawford
First task was to carry out a full check of all parts. Everything was in order and I am very impressed with the quality of both the kit and the plans.
Anthony Crawford
The wing plan was then cut to a shape that fitted the work surface.
Anthony Crawford
My first schoolboy error, and one of many I expect in the build. During the dry fitting process I inadvertently miss-assembled the formers. However, this was very easy to rectify.
Anthony Crawford
The joints only required slight sanding to make a good tight joint.

Anthony Crawford
Next step is to build the wings. Has anybody thought about fitting navigation lights into the wing build?

Anthony Crawford
Navigation lights have arrived. I intend to use 2 white ones in the nose as landing lights. One more white on the tail and one green and red for the wings.
Chris Barlow
Very festive Tony. A few PSS models have benefited from high intensity LED lights in the nose, especially when dropping below the skyline when landing. I would consider replacing the white nose lights with bigger or brighter LED's if they'll work with the controller? Standard LED's don't seem to stand out very well in daylight. Anthony Crawford
Chris, many thanks for your advice and insight into the use of LED lights. As an inexperienced first time builder I will stick with the contents of the standard kit at this time as I do not yet have the knowledge to add/mix other electrical components but I will keep your suggestion in mind for the next build project. Also, I have decided to assemble all 4 wing skins before the wing jig is placed on the building board. I have ensured that I have allowed some extra width for the curvature of the wing ribs. Photograph to follow later. Advice from Martin Gay regarding "Straws" for the servo wires has resulted in the purchase of some jumbo straws from a well known internet site that has an internal diameter of 10mm which will allow both the wires and connectors to pass through them without the need to dis-assemble and re-solder. McG 6969
Nice progress, Tony. I'm considering nav lights too, but as Chris B wrote, you can hardly see them in bright daylight. Maybe I'll stick with some flashing beacons instead. Anyhow, somebody seems to like 'mushroom' soup at your place... Cheers Chris
Chris Barlow
That is a lot of mushroom soup Tony! Are you stock piling? Do you know something we don't?
