Thanks bill for the ideas.

Im in the same boat as you this is my first real scratch build to.

Ok guys i have a question on the tailplane.
how did you cut the elevator tips ?
Im guessing by knife but just want to make sure on the technique
of how to do it. just looks a little tricky.

I must say this building is so much fun,
Way more fun than a ARF thats for sure.

Here is photo of where im up to on it.
Line on tip is just so i know where to cut..

Thanks Bryan

Hi Doug,

Go to page 7 of this thread and have a look at Charles Forsyth entry on retracts, click on the blue wording and the link will take you the web site.

I now the thread is 9 pages long but most of the info you need is there... if it not im sure someone will find an answer for you.

Good luck.

Hi Doug,

From what i understand on my plan its where the trailing edge
joins the  top and bottom spa.
it shows a solid trailing edge where aelrion  is and so you
must make that cut out to join the top and bottom spa  to the solid
trailing edge.
Hope  that helps.

 Cheers Bryan

I've two questions about the fin - instructions say "make from 12mm balsa."
Firstly, I assume the grain should run vertically, with the full width of the plank used at the rear, with the added-on bit to the front?
Secondly, does the drawing show a lightening-triangle removed from the fin near the bottom at the front, or am I misinterpreting this?

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Thats how i built the rudder, and the triangle is for something else don't cut it out of
the rudder ,  I think it's for  something on the wing a jig of some sort to make sure
you have the right angle.
I have completed the front half of my fuse now for the back,
It's lots of fun i must say..
Hope this helps.
Shall get some photos up latter.

                                           Thanks Bryan

Doug,

As for your question about the plan detail, if you have the RCM&E that had the plans in check out page 65 is makes it much clearer. Thanks for the engine advice but it may end up with the 75 if i cant afford a new engine, it will be some time till i need to decide so we will see.

Hi Rob,

Yep, I've got it now! looking at the cut-away drawing shows it quite clearly. there is one thing in the build instructions I don't understand though. Tony (the designer) states that the stringers are not attached to the front end of the fuselage, only glued at the tail post. Any idea why this should be?

Hi Doug,

If you go back to page 7 you will see a link to the retracts there.

And can any one help me stuck on this rib 8
does the top rear spar just sit on top of the rib
or do i need to cut it out a little so the spar will sit in to it.
hope some one can help me out here.

            Thanks Bryan

Hi Bryan,

I've just ordered a set of air retracts now I just need the oleo legs to go with them. The trouble I've been having is trying to find out what size the hole is in the top of the leg. I looked at the page you pointed out but just got more confused.

I haven't started on the wing yet but looking at the rib number 8, it has four cut-outs in it for all four spars.

Doug.

Hi Doug,

Its  6x3mm spar it just don't look right sitting on top of the rib.
That post you had before with the trailing edge cut out.
it does not seem to work with the spar sitting on to of rib 8.

On the struts try  at this store . www.hobbycity.com
they have pretty cheap struts think the come in 5 and 4 mm
where they go into retract..

  Thanks Bryan
