Martyn K
Just spotted this on You Tube. Certainly some interesting designs that never made it past prototype and Martyn Edited By Martyn K on 18/11/2019 07:49:51 Edited By Martyn K on 18/11/2019 07:55:
Peter Miller
Try the Waterman Arrowbile or the Nemeth unbrellaplane and Bonney Gull for real oddballs. The Arrowbile was very successful. The Umbrellaplane was pretty good too. The gull was insane and the flight lasted about 10 seconds

Piers Bowlan
I can't agree more Ken, so very brave, no whimpy parachute recovery systems for them . I was going to add some photos of the structure of the UFO but they won't upload to my album for some reason despite them being in PDF format. Piers Bowlan
Doh! Thanks Martin . I downloaded some images of the UFO's structure a while ago from a magazine article online but I can't find it anymore. Here are the images anyway, it looks pretty straight forward and reminds me of the Nutball, without the turned up wingtips. The rotax two stroke engine produces 52hp apparently and is very light. Peter, let me know when you have your prototype model flying,- in a couple of weeks time! Martyn K
That's just a big model. Someone clearly has aeromodelling skills when they put that wing together
Piers Bowlan
It's not David Rowe's first, as he has built ten aircraft to date and this is his fifth circular winged aircraft. He also built a model, found it flew fine, so decided to build a full sized one! The wing looks very simple with its flat underside, no washout and sharp leading edge. The magazine article was in Australian Sport Pilot Jan 2019, incidentally. Edited By Piers Bowlan on 19/11/2019 15:21:

I just have to finish my Stampe SR-7 and will be looking at this one. I need an oddball model next.
Peter Miller
Just found that one can read the complete magazine as a PDF file
cymaz
Rowe UFO had retracts as well! I was a little confused how the pilot would do the lower hatch up. Presumably he put is feet on the wing braces ( or rudder pedals for that matter )
Robin Colbourne
Wikipedia has a plan and side view drawing here: KN Rowe 'Useless Flying Object' The UFO is definitely a contender to use those Depron pizza trays I've been saving over the years. My favourite is the Wainfan Facetmobile, for which a number of model plans are available: Edited By Robin Colbourne on 19/11/2019 17:56:
Peter Miller
That is helpfull although the wing section is wrong.

Still it just need a bigger board, and probably a bigger bandsaw. Might need a 200 ml bottle of Gorilla glue.
Don Fry
Lee-Richards annular monoplane The first monoplane during construction. I think this is the origin to a free plan in a magazine, RC Scale Modeller? I built one, small 4 stroke powered. Flew Ok, very stable, can't remember what happened to it. Looked great on a flypast. Piers Bowlan
The Wiki drawing is of Dave Rowe's previous UFO build that he built eleven years ago (with the tricycle gear). I agree Peter, the wing section is still wrong and looks different to his latest design. I beg to differ Don, I have looked at many images online and the underside of his latest iteration looks completely flat to me - no (physical) washout although there is aerodynamic washout apparently? (said by those that claim to know about these things!) This is his previous build... Edited By Piers Bowlan on 19/11/2019 19:10:
Robin Colbourne
An article about the UFO here: Sport Pilot UFO Article I doubt the wing section has a name. I guess it would be a case of draw what looks right and try it.
