Ray Wood 4
Hi All, I thought it would be good to start a proper scale model build after 6 years of model boat building for a change, I have finished & flown Brian's small Harvard 68" and started a couple of others now in the loft Mossie & ME 109. But thought the Valiant with it's fixed undercart could be a good scale hack, so here goes...... It won't be a quick build as I'm normally building 3-4 other projects at the same time 😀 here is the front inner section of the fuselage, trying to keep it light. martin collins 1
Will keep tabs on your build, always liked the Valiant............
Ray Wood 4
Hi all, Front bulkhead in place with a brand new ASP90FS in place, should do the the job ok 😀 Regards Ray
Ray Wood 4
Hi all, Slowly making progress, and thought it would be a good idea to take some of the 1/4" sheet out behind the c of g to reduce the nose ballast required , so away with my Gaskin hole cutter we go 😀 Regards Ray
Ray Wood 4
Hi all, Big step forward with the rear fuselage sides glued to the front assembly, inverted over the drawing to get it straight. Coming up soon lots of bulkheads to cut & fit and the start of the planking 😀I Regards Ray

Martian
Which variant is this one are you going to use a dummy PW engine ?
Ray Wood 4
Not to sure which variant i' m building yet just following the drawing at present, it would be nice to fill the cowl with a dummy P&W radial 😀
Gary Clark 1
Looking forward to following along Ray, I've always been a big fan of Brian Taylor. A 3d printed radial is simple, cheap and looks great for very little effort Gary
Ray Wood 4
Hi Gary, When I get further I will be very interested to commission a printed engine, who would you recommend? Regards Ray
Gary Clark 1
Hi Ray I can print one for you. That's why I got the printer in the first place, great for exhaust stacks, engines, pilots, cockpits, everything really! Just let me know what size youd like and I can sort you out with something. Ray Wood 4
Thanks Gary That is a kind offer I will take you up on 😀 I make a living with a computer, so any connection with my hobby is a no no ! Balsa bashing has been a life long passion 😀 happy days! Rear lower formers in position now, with lots lightness added Regards Ray
Ray Wood 4
Hi all, On with the tank access hatch and cockpit and rear formers, planking next 😀 Regards Ray
Ray Wood 4
Hi All, As Dennis is howling outside what better evening to start planking the fuselage 😀 with 1/8th x 3/8" strips cut from 4" sheet with my 36" steel rule, best investment ever. regards Ray
Ray Wood 4
Hi All, With such a large canopy this fuselage doesn't need that much planking, with a bit of work with the razor plane & Permagrit sanding block it will be less like a thrupenny bit 😀 Regards Ray

Ray Wood 4
Thanks Danny, I have admired the detail you go to with your projects, I hope I don't get too carried away with this one, these maybe famous last words I will have to order the cowl & canopy soon. Ray Wood 4
Hi all, The fuselage top planked, I will need to build the tailplane now so the elevator, tail wheel linkages can be installed in situ before the bottom planking is finished off. Great building weather lately & received my operators number from the bmfa 😀 so I can carry on doing what I've been doing for 50 years 😉 Regards Ray
Ray Wood 4
Hi All, For anybody new to the Brian Taylor tailplane building method of 2 separate halves built flat on the building board, this is the first half of the " vibrator's" tailplane, which was the Valiant's Nick name from those who flew them 😀 Regards Ray
