Frank Skilbeck
Just finishing a petrol powered model, paint I've used is probably not fuel proof. I have some Poly C and note they say it is fuel resistant, anybody used it over paint as a fuel proofer?
Martin Harris - Moderator
Skincrylic from Falcon, which may well be the same, works well as a fuel proofer for glow fuel but I was using it on combat models where quality of finish was less important and I simply brushed it on. Stephen Jones
I use poly C and find it ok with glow fuel you do need to build up the layers. Don't use petrol so no idea on that. I designed this trainer for my son it is covered in brown paper and poly C . Still have it and its fine with glow fuel. Andy Stephenson
Martin, I have done a search for Falcon and Skincrylic and can't find anything, do you have a link to the supplier. There was some discussion about it in this other thread from 2009 but this didn't lead to a supplier either. https://www.modelflying.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=33054 Thanks, Andy. Martin Harris - Moderator
I've only bought from them at shows. They were from Burnley, I think...perhaps one of our Northern correspondents could advise whether they're still trading?
Andy Stephenson
Martin, I searched on Falcon and Burnley and this came up... http://ww38.falcon-aviation.co.uk/ It looks like they are out of business. I guess Skincrylic was a concoction of their own. I have been looking around at the best skinning resin/adhesive for a while. I tried this with tissue and it seemed to work but I don't think it's fuel-proof as a final coat... You do have to buy a whole litre but it does work out much cheaper than model specific formulas. cymaz
This is might be worth some investigation. The Halfords petrol proof lacquer is not very good
Philip Ogden
**LINK** appears to be a similar product which I have used successfully in the past.
