Robert Cracknell
I have a Laser 80 sitting on the shelf looking for a mount and I have always liked the Douglas Skyraider. Anyone has a suggestions or experience of a plan/kit to suit..? Any level of build competency will be OK Any and all help appreciated.... Alan Gorham_
Sarik offer the old Complete a Pac Skyraider which I guess was designed for an old .61 2 stroke. Should be amply powered by an 80 4 stroke. they also offer cowls and canopies, but as it's an old design I guess you might have to noodle out any required retract fitting. https://www.sarikhobbies.com/product/douglas-skyraider-2/
kc
That same CAP plan is on Outerzone and this also has links to a recent build log using a Saito 80 and retracts. Edited August 9, 2022 by kc
Jon H
The full size uses twist and turn type retracts and these are often a bit of a nightmare. If you do use retracts i would use standard units and have them retract straight back into the wing. Sure the bottom half of the wheel might hang out but it might save you some hassle. At 62 inch and 9-10lbs a laser 80 would be plenty and i would shoot for a 14x7 apc prop on a model like that. Lowering the tank for an inverted engine will also be easy given the cavernous fuselage! Paul De Tourtoulon
I have a Seagull Skyraider cheap and cheerful that ( if you don't want to build ) is perfect for your laser, I modified some 45€ alu aliwatsit retracts to make them twist and turn, quite simple to do. Robert Cracknell
Thanks Paul - food for thought. I would like to build to eat up some of the surplus retired time....!
