MikeQ
Armour plate added. Not sure it will stop a 37mm round 😀 Edited December 31, 2023 by MikeQ

MikeQ
Hi thanks. Got it to a point where I can finish the detail work later. Just wanted to get it too a point I can move on with other major bits and pieces. Will give it a rest on the cockpit for now. Wing mount next. Back to balsa bashing thank god. mike Edited January 2, 2024 by MikeQ

MikeQ
“I love the sound of peel ply tearing in the morn8ng” 😀 On with glassing the wings. The slight dimples peel ply leaves are easily knocked back with 300-400 wet and dry. WestSystems 105/206 and 25g cloth from East Coast Fibreglass supplies. mike Edited January 21, 2024 by MikeQ
McG 6969
Hey Mike, Instead of sanding down the dimples of the glass, youl could apply a thin coat of Freddie B Sauce. That way you keep the full strenght of the glass coating. It's a brushable coat of very lightweight 'filler' that sands like butter. Phil C used it as well on his Yugo Sabre. Please see my build blog for further details... Cheers & keep on the great build Chris Edited January 21, 2024 by McG 6969
MikeQ
Hi Chris thanks for the heads up. I’d seen the Freddie B Sauce on the other threads. I’ll keep it in mind. How is your build going? cheers mike
McG 6969
Hi Mike, My build is on hold since ages now. A double heart surgery early last year is the main culprit. The Sabre Dog is ready for final paint and I hope to resume it after my revalidation - weather allowing, of course. Best of luck with your build (and the Sauce...) MikeQ
Hi Wings glassed and fuse just about finished. Drop tanks glassed and given first prime and rub back. Just have to do the part I’m not looking forward to. Tail feathers and fairing. mike Edited January 28, 2024 by MikeQ
MikeQ
Hi Bit more work on Sabre. Just need to sort bending of the tail wires and complete and refine the fairing shapes etc. Shouldn’t be long before move on to glassing fuselage. mike PS Also need to sort tail pioe 😂 Edited March 3, 2024 by MikeQ
MikeQ
Hi Lol, how come you can put a good bit of effort in and apparently make very little visible progress 😂. Anyway, servos all mounted and AMT working. Going with pull pull on rudder. Fuselage all closed up and wing belly pan finished and model sanded down. Just the tail pipe, gun ports and tail, wing fairings to sort. Will probably glass fuselage and fun/rudder separately before assembling and finishing up fairings all round. mike

MikeQ
Hi big progress 😆. Gun ports added. Sanding carbon always makes such a mess. Edited April 20, 2024 by MikeQ
MikeQ
Hi next up, glassing fuselage. Drew up and 3D printed a couple of jigs to allow me to ‘spit roast’ it. Will keep a track of the weights from here on in case anyone finds it useful, including me 😀 Gave it a coat of NonShrinkingDope mixed with microballons and sanded down to take the ‘fuzz’ off. MikeQ
Hi started fuselage. 1 side at a time. Peel Ply, 0,5oz glass and West Systems laminating resin. lol, £1.80 Resin and about £1.20 glass per side. Peel Ply takes more resin than finally needed as i like to totally wet out the PeelPly. Heat Gun helps the resin flow. Mike Edited April 27, 2024 by MikeQ
MikeQ
Hello bit more progress on the Sabre, just a bit. All glassed up and priming. Sanded through in a spot or two but easy to fix with thick zap and some primer sanded back. Tail pipe was a bit of a faff but made it out of 1/64 ply. Not exactly scale but close enough. looks a bit rough in pics but ‘faired it in’ with laminating epoxy and micro balloons mix. MikeQ
Hello edging further forward a little bit. Been practicing painting pilots. Happy with this fella so far. Need a bit of glaze medium on visor and some decor on helmet and a bit of panel wash to finish off. This is just a test run. I’ll actually go for the colour scheme of the little orange chap. Better contrast in dark cockpits. Vallejo Youtube tutorials particularly useful.

MikeQ
Hello John thanks for the compliment. I wish i could progress faster but i have my finger in too many modelling poes and a shorter attention span as I get older 😆 I’m like John Shuttleworth with ‘10 margarines on the go’. cheers mike
