Steve Colman
The UK following the USA as per usual. I foresee the same here in Spain and the rest of europe very soon too. Like him or not, Bruce Simpson (Xjet youtube channel) has been highlighting this subject for a while now. Reading some of the comments in the article many point out that people are often injured, and in some cases killed, by dogs, electric scooters, bicycles, etc and the government sit back and do nothing about those. kc
Terrorists and other crooks will simply not fit the tracker device. Daft idea.

Cuban8
Utter, utter nonsense as usual. I like the bit that says................... "It comes amid growing concern that Britain's drone registration scheme is not being enforced properly – and that the aircraft could be used by terrorists to cause serious harm or economic damage". As if any registration scheme is a foolproof way to prevent illegal activity..........registering cars doesn't exactly stop car crime or misuse of cars, or vehicles being used in crime or terrorism does it? Stevey
As if some terrorist person with plans is going to suddenly think " hold on a minute I just need to do my drone test and register and purchase a remote ID device before I fly off to wherever and cause mayhem", I think NOT.
Paul De Tourtoulon
Maybe they could start by putting number plates on electric scooters, the number of accidents and deaths caused by them.

MattyB
For me the only surprise to this announcement is that it has taken so long for the CAA and UK Gov to begin the process of introducing RID here. Really no-one should be surprised; the DfT announced that electronic conspicuity should be implemented asap back on Dec 2020: https://publicapps.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP 2001 CAA Prioritisation Letter.pdf …and the Riga declaration of 2015 was also pretty clear that it would be needed globally to “unlock the commercial potential of SUAS”: The fight that is to come is inevitable, and the BMFA and other national associations have known it was coming for a long time. We can only hope they have used that time to get their ducks in a row and build an effective strategy to counter these moves, unlike the AMA in the US who basically just rolled over and let the FAA walk all over the wider hobby so they could take prime position as a CBO (Community based Org) that would be able to administer FRIAs etc. Edited January 27, 2023 by MattyB
