Jim Hearnden 1
Our club fly indoors for the winter & I'm getting too damn old for A. building in a freezing cold garage & B. flying outside in this weather. So ordered a TY300 indoor model from Aliexpress. In fact two. I also order a tiny DSMX Rx from them at the same time. The RX is about 1/2 your thumbnail size! Well the receiver has arrived with only an aerial wire. There are 4 tiny pads that need RX Pos & Neg & motor wire pos & neg wired to. Each pad is around 1mm square. Bearing in mind I was trained as an electronics engineer & in 1973 the first 6 weeks of my Apprenticeship at RAE Farnborough was soldering lessons & practice. I've just bought an illuminated viewer from 7 day shop that fits over your glasses but still not looking forward to wiring this thing up. Wish me well!
shepeiro
They are not fun to solder need a magnifier just to see if it worked or not. I have bought an rx and coils to try and actuator setup and am equally as apprehensive so good luck but I think with your experience should be ok. just make sure you’ve got the leaded solder.

Very cheap to run on paraffin or red diesel if y9u can find an outlet or even jet 1 kerosene with no condensation like a lot of heaters. Your welcome to pop down and see my heater running anytime . Graham R
Kerosene is 99p ltr and red diesel £1.35 ltr where I am. I thought that kerosene was a no no in these heaters as there is no lubrication for the pump. Is that right?
Chris Walby
£1.35 - £0.99 = £0.36 saving for a few hours of running - the cost of possibly screwing up your DIESEL heater (unless the manufacturer calls it a kerosene heater), but then with everything you'll find someone who has done it and never had a problem, so crack on and see what happens.

Have been using kerosene in mine for two years , this will be the third year and works fine. Doesnt generate as much heat as diesel but still plenty hot enough. I have occasionally added a drop of twostroke oil to the mix. Edited December 30, 2024 by Engine Doctor

E.D. Ps I know exactly what uou mean about the cold damp field Thanks I saw your heater when I popped around the other week. The issue I have is the only access into a ram packed garage is through the big front door. The side door is blocked off with junk that needs clearing out. I have a fan heater there & also a dehumidifier. If I got in & closed the door, the fan heater would bring the temp up quick enough. When I was engine building & kit car building that's what I did. I now have enough jobs building up that I may camp out in there and crack on with them. Hopefully before our next indoor session. My brother lives on a narrow boat full time & has one of these diesel heaters. It runs off his main diesel tank, I think he runs on red as well. It's generally pretty reliable but he does have a wood burner & back boiler for when it misbehaves.
