Throttle control / Curve

Hi folks,

I have an SC52 4C in my Seagull Pilatus PC9, but it seems that 90% of my throttle control is in the 1st half of the stick movement, thereafter there's very little left in the engine. This makes it difficult when landing when subtle throttle control is required.

I could sort this if i had aero throttle curve on my FF7 but alas, I do not. Any ideas as to an alternative remedy for this problem?

Cheers,
Nicky.

Its a common problem!!! All I could suggest is to use some mechanical differential so the first 30 degrees (say!) of servo movement translates to relatively less linear movement at the throttle barrel. Also limiting the ATV of the first half of the stick movement can help too.

Setting up throttles can be extremely tedious & I guess most people don't bother...as long as the throttle barrel goes from idle to full without stalling the servo I guess most people are happy.....

Thanks guys,

Some good info there. As it happens, the FF7 has got aero throttle expo, and this did the trick beautifully. Should have reserched this better! Although some of those mechanical throttle solutions are useful, sometimes it is difficult to incorporate them into a particular model.

Cheers!

Try adjusting the horn positions and the locations of the clevises on the horns to resolve this issue.

To my mind, far too many people jump to using an electronic solution rather than setting up the controls up properly mechanically in the 1st place.
Try getting a look at the "RM Propo" book to see what I mean, it is a very old book  but a real eye opener to the electronic generation.

Tis true.....get it close mechanically & fine tune with the electronics.......in t'olden days we didn't have such things as ATV EXP etc....not even servo reverse (although Futaba used to supply servos with opposite rotation...(red or black labels, remember!!) which helped). Setting the throttle so you got full movement without stalling took ages....happy days!!
