  1. Why not just purchase a suitable charger for your battery, connect it up when in use to prevent over discharge..?

    BBC Weather

Posted by Handyman on 25/04/2018 21:36:44: Just in passing, I use site for weather forecasts that seems to get the weather fairly accurate. Its called, <www.xcweather.co.uk>. You just log-in and enter your location or your flying fields location, and you get a 7 day forecast that includes average wind speeds, gusting, temperature, rain if any, cloud and barometric pressure. It does the job for me!!!! Xcweather for me too. Used it for years to check out wind speed/direction at my local flying venue...
  3. Posted by Kevan Gillings 2 on 18/04/2018 08:24:40: Had a Hyundai suv for 10 years , grat car, no problems/cheap to run. Changed to Vauxhall Insignia estate, had it for 18 months, got fed up of taking it to the local main agent for faults under warranty, changed back to the Hyundai. I had one if the early Insignias, a sports tourer 2.0 litre diesel fitted with the Fiat engine from the Alfa Romeo 159.... Car was the biggest pos I've ever owned....main dealers couldnt resolve an issue I had with it, so I got rid of it after 4 months and bought another Mondeo estate... I later found out the car was recalled for an ecu upgrade....

Geoff Yes I do remember....and the 1/3 pint bottles we got at school..As a class monitor, I got to drink any surplus bottles too.....if I wanted..
  5. Posted by supertigrefan on 04/04/2018 12:05:12: and for me, the only drill bits for metal I can totally rely on are proper cobalt....all this 'coated' business is a con. Yep....I had a set of the 'titanium coated ' drills....Absolute rubbish! Tried drilling a hole in some mild steel plate, the bit didnt seem to be cutting, so I pressed a bit harder....next thing, the drill just bent...might as well have been made from liquorice....the remaining bits went into the bin!
  6. Cheap hack saw blades! I bought a pack of Junior hacksaw blades from a well known trades outlet ( begins with S ) cheaper than I thought they would be.....and they are for a reason... Used one yesterday to cut some flooring trim ( aluminium ) ......What utter crap they are! Buy cheap, buy twice...definitely the case this time...
  7. The metal being spun needs to be kept 'soft'....you find you have to anneal the metal several times before the article is completed...Use a substantial piece of material as a sooon for applying the pressure to the metal being spun, with a waxy tip to prevent burnishing or in some cases a roller bearing There are numerous vids on youtube showing the methodology.... I've successfully spun aluminium and copper on my lathe without too many tears.... Mainly for end covers for model steam boilers.
  8. If the Wot4 is the kit to build rather than an artf, then yes it wins for me over the Seagull.....you have the chance to influence the build quality....
  9. Posted by Bob Cotsford on 27/03/2018 13:17:25: There's always something new out there and you now have a full set of airborne gear ready and waiting. As long as the meeting with mother earth was pilot error rather than radio failure of some sort.  Edited By John Rudd on 27/03/2018 14:13:36
  10. +1 for SLEC... Their service is second to none, great value and great product lines....and lots of free advice too....had an issue when assembling a T180, a quick phone call resolved my issues No affiliation other than a satisfied customer( even though another John Rudd was a staff member...)
  11. What about the issue of depleting the batteries below a safe level? No lvc?
  12. Oldgit, Sounds a good conversion. What motor/prop are you going to use? I have a part built model that would lend itself to modification prior to completion. Edited By John Rudd on 19/02/2018 17:29:48
  13. Worked fine for me this morning when I looked....via my ipad...
  14. Rather than wasting time trying to straighten a bent shaft, just make a new one..... Get some silver steel of the appropriate diameter, sources ebay for one, or Macc models ( google ) Securing flats can be added with a small file....and the groove can be cut on a lathe with a piece of broken hacksaw blade appropriately shaped....( if you have a mate with a lathe..  Edited By John Rudd on 29/12/2017 11:12:38
  15. I've been with BG for over 30 years, we had SM's fitted about 18 m ago....The guy that came to fit them studied Computer Science at degree level....Installing meters was his exposure to the practical world.....I have to admit his skill level in terms of working on live elec equipment was pretty good..... Our new house has smart meters installed by Eon.....it will be interesting to see how we get on with them when we leave BG.....( havent actually moved yet....)
  16. Thanks for all the replies fellas, doesnt sound like its going to be a next project....and at £24 for a kit of parts its definitely not something I'd be pressing the 'buy it now'  button for..... Edited By John Rudd on 24/09/2017 19:45:53
  17. Has anyone built one ? Is it worth building? Is it easy to build? ( my limited experience...) Many components involved? Opinions sought before I try and buy the back issue.....( if there are any left...went to Smiths too late....I guess...) TIA......
  18. Hmm... You're welcome for the help.... I guess my posts must be invisible to the average reader....
  19. Have you tried Bill Manley of Bill kits? He did a FF, I still have my unstarted kit..... http://www.billkits.com Edited By John Rudd on 26/06/2017 16:06:22
  20. I checked my local Lidl today, although they still had the glider advert tag on display the basket was empty and no more out the back......bummer....ah well I tried..
  21. Nothing showing on the Lidl website.....
  22. My car insurance was due in May, got the renewal invite from a well known insurer beginning with A, got £65 back by buying via the Quidco route....Have done that for the second year running now.. I'd sooner have £65 hard cash than a soft cuddly meerkat.... Edited By John Rudd on 02/06/2017 13:56:42
  23. I guess he didnt take much 'persuading' to join the big man upstairs.......? One of lifes greatest actors in my book.... I enjoyed him as Ivanhoe, Brett Sinclair alongside Danny (Tony Curtis...), Simon Templar in the Saint( I now wish I still had my white Volvo sports car that he drove....) and of course as Bond..... RIP Roger, sadly missed...
