  1. Probably a sound idea to search for an alternative, it will certainly work out much cheaper. Consider also mig welding rod available in straight lengths, I will probably give it a try, cutting a thread on the end for a clevis.
  2. With my transmitter, it has to be switched on to work.
  3. Hi Frank, this is an active Polish forum I found last year: https://pfmrc.eu This is a club near Warsaw I think. https://www.facebook.com/pkmlrc/ I am not aware of the regs in PL unfortunately. From my experience, most Poles under 50 speak English pretty fluently, but I have found the online forum culture in PL, not quite as open as this fine old place.
  4. Hi Frank, I went down a similar path a year or so back. My partner wishes to relocate the family back to her native Poland and one of my first instincts was to try to reach out to a model club in the right area (Lublin). Well I joined the Lublin facebook group and made an introduction in Polish (via Google translate) and English, didn't get a single response. https://www.facebook.com/radawiecrc I hope you have more success than I did.
  5. Mine doesn't. We rang BT and had them switch off the Wifi. I have a device that scans for Wifi and can confirm it is now switch off. Each to their own of course and not trying to plug an agenda.
  6. We have a wired connection and are lucky in that we do not have any other WiFi signals from neighbours at all (we do not have any neighbours) . The use of RC equipment is generally short in duration by comparison. The risks of WiFi are not fully understood, but each to their own of course!
  7. Anyone concerned about the dangers of WiFi might not want a smartphone either.
  8. I don't think you are abnormal, I just thing some pilots on here set the MAUW too low and need to add a bit of timber!
  9. Hi Eric, thank you for responding. I will have a look next time I'm in the stores, having looked at the price of a 50m roll on Ebay (nearly £15), I need to find a more reasonable alternative. Happy Christmas, James.
  10. I do quite like this B&Q foam board. I am just finishing up the HT on my Typhoon and it is made of 2 laminations of the 9mm sanded to a reasonable aerofoil shape. I used Copydex to join the sheets together as it seemed a bit wasteful to use POR. It seems strong enough now dry. The issue I have is finding any brown masking paper to cover it with. Tool Station are out of stock in my area. I have some lighter brown paper, but this has a ribbed pattern to it. The heavier stuff I have does not have gloss on one side. I guess I have to experiment. Thanks James.
  11. Hi All, I am finally getting started now on my first build with foamboard and B&Q 2mm underlay foam. I have to say that after a trepidatious start, I am starting to enjoy working with these materials. Still very early days, but I like the way the 2mm stuff can be shaped with heat and it then retains the desired curvature. The Hobbycraft foamboard is easy enough to work with and the paper backing comes away very easily with the iron. I'll update as I go, with the build. Regards James.
  12. The 109 is looking lovely Martin. I've received my pack of b&q 3mm foam and can't wait to get started now. I think I have found some foam meat trays on Ebay that I can use for skinning tail feathers with, it looks about 1/16" thick and cheap enough to experiment with. How does the b&q foam sand? I'm thinking of ordering some 9mm for lwr fuselage shaping ahead of the leading edge of wing. Or am I still thinking too much like a balsa modeller and should design differently and curve the foam around formers? James.
  13. P.s. is this the masking paper? https://www.toolstation.com/brown-masking-paper/p46672 Regards James
  14. Thank you Eric, this is what I needed to know. I am looking to build a mk.XVI Spitfire to a similar scale as your Sea Fury and hope to use your techniques in the construction. I am amazed how you have used depron to produce such a fine model. I bought some 3mm white from B&q and was wondering if this would be suitable for the tail skin or is this too thick at this scale? Thanks for the advice re brown paper, I will pick up a roll from Toolstation. 👍 Regards James
  15. Good morning Eric, can I ask where you got the 1/16 foam from for the tail skins or did you have to machine it yourself or hwc it? Also you mention covering with brown paper and ironing it down, is this done with a cold or warm iron, or just a figure of speech? Thanks James.
  16. Thank you Martin, much appreciated. I'll be heading to B&Q tomorrow!
  17. This is fascinating and is inspiring me to have a go. I've tried to find the white foam board on the B&Q website but can't seem to it. What am I missing?
  18. Some very good ideas and thoughts on this thread. I have been experimenting with white polystyrene from Wickes for wing cores and using lining paper for skins. The paper is of the heavy weight variety and weighs about the same as 1/16 balsa sheet. The resultant wing is stiff enough, it will be interesting to see how it copes with flying. I am also looking into using grey mount board 1mm to 2mm thick for sheeting. I see online that cardboard can be stiffened with wood hardener, so I am going to try a few experiments. For me the high cost of balsa wood has forced me to look for alternatives, hopefully I can maintain the pleasure/to cost ratio of the past. Thanks James.
  19. What a practical looking model, I'm going to have to build one of these. Could any of you kind gents help me similarly with a plan? Regards James.
  20. Great post. I'd say you've done a wonderful job considering your lack of experience. I hope you get it finished one day.
  21. Just my experience from using cad systems at work, Catia, Solidworks, Acad, we have always used a mouse. Same for my real speciality area in aircraft structures, always used a mouse with Patran and Ansys. But each to their own.
  22. I would have a look at the Svenson Prima on Outerzone, if you fancy building from plans.
  23. It wasnt clear to me as I haven't used their website. I wouldn't buy balsa mail order as like to select it myself.
