  1. Cut back Oracover and glue to balsa, A flexible glue will be best IMO and allow slight movement . A rigid glue like epoxy is likely to cause ABS to crack .
  2. I would go for Nimh packs. C or Sub C of the low self Disharge type. 2000 mah to give ample capacity. If you decide on AA cells then dont go any higher than around 2100 mah as they are more likely to fail an not as robust internally.
  3. It seems odd that a British engine made in england from a long heritage of performance engines would have a basic fault of a sloppy front bearing fit , originals had made in England cast into case an later ones had mzde in Japan. Even more strange when they were bought out or farmed out to OS and still had the same issues. Is it just my suspicious mind or would OS continue the faulty manufacturs so that more people would buy the OS equivalent and the competition would die out ?
  4. A simple glow stick or "D" cell Nimh for the plug and a retired 4s for the starter. Works well so why re-invent the wheel. Over the years ive been given many glow sticks , owner saying the battery is knackered. Given a good charge on a decent charger is often all that is needed to revive them and the fault....... is the supplied charger .
  5. I might have to think about one of these for 2025 ....... with an oily thing on the front of course 🙂.
  6. The insurers never ever mention the good times and the millions of motorist who never make a claim and bump up thier profits yea4 on year. The whole insurance industry is a tottal mess, supposedly regulated but suprise suprise regulated heavily in their favour.
  7. Hi Paul I have some of that in my trimming box . Depends a lot on make etc etc but it is quite heavy. Sticks very well to a hard gloss surface but not that good to wood. only firm stuck down parts would be the over laps
  8. Ive found Irvine engines front bearing often leak fuel out running fast and this changes to sucking air in at low speed. Swap front bearngs to rubber sealed bearings with the inner seal removed. Check the other sugestions first to eliminate all other possible air leaks.
  9. Hi Jon why does your Saito overheat on your Nieuport so quickly ? I undersrand over propping an engine can cause this , but 10s seems very quick .A Puppeteer I had some years ago fitted with a OS 48 overheated regularly even with a large exit hole at the bottom ; until i fitted a baffle plate to the cowling with a slot in front of the cylinder and baffle plates directing the air to the fins so that it couldnt escape around the engine. Never had an issue again .Large open cowls are the worst for causing overheating unless air is directed by baffles.
  10. Your dead right. "Nitro engine" how American and wrong. Why do Amercanisms alway contaminate our language ? Oops is Americanism an example 😳.
  11. On closed loop connection once happy with them I also run some thing Cyano it them as belt and braces.
  12. One of our member sadly no longer with us made "A Ring of Death" for our funfly earlier this year. As it name implies its a ring of about 6 to 7ft diameter made ftom plastic pipe covered in foam insuation to lessen any dents when hitting it and held uprite on some stout wooden brackets. I attempted it on the day he made it and flew striaght through it on my first attempt with a fast foam glider about 1 M span......beginners luck , i really suprised my self. On the day of fun fly I had manny attempts but always either missed or clipped it . Only model that went through it that day was a model with FPV fitted ... cheat 😀. Its a good game and far more difficult than limbo unless your limbo is narrow. Plane took a bit of a battering but fixed in an hour or so. It still amazes me though that as soon as a fun competition is mentioned how many good flyer back down ? Even the landing nearest to and winning a £10 note . Nowt as strange as folk.
  13. For the odd ding in the veneer try wetting it the putting a hot iron on it. Often the dent/ ding comes out completely as the grains resume their original shape. Anything bigger then Ronseal Woodfill is excellent. It comes im white or biege . Its a two pack polyester sets in 10 min and sands very easy while bonding to surface well. Dont allow it to come inyo contact with polystyrene foam as it melts it until set Any mild undulations can ve sanded out using a sanding block. As already stated Oracover will cover minor imperfections well .
  14. I stitch uc to any vintage type models as its a tried and tested method . I mark where uc is to be fitted before assembling fuz and drill 1/16th holes either side. To fit uc i use strong black thread or thinner terelyne thread as used for kites etc run cyano on the end of threaad to stiffen and trim to a point. Then stitch away . Pull tight every couple of stitches an lock with cyano. When complete you can run some epoxy over the stitching but often the cyno is adequate. Very quick and strong . A pair of forcepts are handy in confined spaces for the stitching .Cable ties can degrade an go brittle. Quicker methods are often inferior . Sadle clamps are good but you stilll have to drive the screws , difficult if inside the fuz on a verticle former. The torsion bar method is good if you can anchor the block/blocks needed to hold them. As you get older theres nothing worse than a" loose undercarriage" 😶
  15. Its good to have a new kit available and see Cougars in different colour schemes , a bit like the early one . Hope Weston do well with them .
  16. Hi 911 just my opinion but Use J60 as intended ie, rudder elevator. They are nice flying models and ideal for anyone to get stick time who is having trouble advancing their early flying. If you really wanted to try ailerons on a J60 just make a new wing with flat bottom instead of under cambered ,greatly reduced dihedral and strip ailerons , not inset type ; but yhen you might as well stick with the Wot 4. Very importantly , Keep your original wing for when you get fed up with all the alterations etc.
  17. Looking good👍would be interesting to see it suitability to a IC conversion for us Piston heads .
  18. I havent used a power panel now in years. I carry some glow sticks and a converted MFA glow box as a back up. They came fitted with a 2v Pb battery and a resitor lead to reduce voltage. It also has an ammeter tha shows current flow. I discarded the 2v pb and fitted a7000 mah Nimh D cell of the low self discharge type. Simple to use and one charge lasts for ages and save carrying around a 12 battery in the flight box. For the fuel pump just use a 3s lipo . As already said a lot of the MFA stuff was very basic hit or miss stuff . Why risk expensive glowplugs with a dodgy power panel ?
