Personally, happy to keep using this one.

We don't have a joining fee at all. We have no club house to maintain and are not allowed to put anything 'permanent' on the field. Our only expenses are annual field rent (which I personally feel is very high!),depreciation on the mower and trailer, servicing the mower, petrol for the mower. The only real investment has been time to prepare, and maintain, our beautiful runway. We welcome everyone, irrespective of experience, or how many clubs they belong to. If anyone does not like how the club is run, they are welcome to raise matters at the AGM, and become part of the committee. We certainly wouldn't refuse membership if anyone expressed a desire to change anything......

No dairy products in my workshop, so I may give this a go.......

My club has planes, engines, and motors from BMFA classified, fleabay, and facebook marketplace. We bought our club trainer (Apprentice) off maketplace.... Just needs a little care and common sense to make sure you're not being scammed.

Purely personal choice of course. Mine was to take it out of the box and just fly it 1000 times - I smile every time. The challenge of balancing controls to do an even semi passable knife edge is still there. It's got foibles and habits (not bad habits) but they just add to it's appeal for me. That it doesn't do perfectly axial rolls, or does not have 'pure' yaw control doesn't make it bad to fly...... (i'm not convinced that adding mixes will work at all airspeeds tbh - they must help, but not mix out all unintended coupling at all speeds - unless throttle is included in every mix). I's trimmed enough for me to enjoy it and to do reasonable aerobatics. No everyone wants every plane to behave like a pattern plane. Back to the OP - there is no need to remove the shim.

Some of these fees and rationales beggar belief!

I must be lucky - only 1 club I have been a member of had a joining fee. It was to cover the cost of having a key cut. This key was for the padlock on the gate leading to the single access point. Lots of valid reasons I guess......

If you aren't retired, and have a young family, the good old UK weather may well mean it'll take months 🙂 My point is that it's never going to be perfect, so live with it, and enjoy it for what it is...

May just be lack of fairings, but undercarts look different, so may be a different iteration of same model?

We have an Apprentice as our club trainer. It's great for that but we do struggle to get some people to move away from all the electronic 'aids' ..... seems a double learning curve: Learn to steer about Learn to fly.

Short answer - flies beautifully as it comes out of the box..... if it has a shim, leave it in place. It isn't, nor will it ever be, a precision aerobat, so be prepared to use all 4 controls manually - or spend months chasing your tail with multiple mixes or manual adjustments. In my view this is, by far, the best Foss Foamie......

GR recognised LH was on faster rubber so, unlike Alpine, saw no point in fighting with each other...... Possibly a bit premature to say there's a new Sheriff - rumour seems to be that Merc have experimented more with LH as he's more experienced. Will be interesting to see how the remaining races go as Merc resolve their issues. Much as it pains me to say it, Red Bull look the complete package. I doubt they'll ever have anyone outstanding (apart from MV) as they'd be told long, hard, and repeatedly, that MV is #1....

Another masterclass.......

interestingly, some full size helis also have a piece of string. A firm called Multiflight used to do 'taster' heli lessons at Bradford airport. The instructor would run through a few of the controls and then point at the string and say "that is the single most important instrument - it must always hang down!". I found it very hard to fly and was told I have the touch and finesse of a hippopotamus wearing boxing gloves. My teenage son took to it like a duck to water and was happily hovering and moving around the airport...

Works for me on Firefox, but not Edge..... can't immediately see why.......

Is it on a Y or extension lead? If so, test it with that.... I've had a few issues with Y leads.....

Next question..... Some members have questioned the need for extinguishers, and believe they should be provided by the club. This makes me nervous as: a. We don't have a secure place to put them b. if the club provides then, the club is responsible for making sure they're fit for purpose. Before I cast my vote as 'No' at the AGM, believing in personal responsibility, what happens elsewhere? I know of a local club that has them locked in a secure storage facility, but don't think all members have a key - making it a pretty poor solution in my view. Thoughts welcomed!
