Though not so much about balsa and lipos, more about supply chains and costs. **LINK** This is likely to take years to unscramble, so don't expect the next planned shipments to arrive quickly ! This is a worldwide problem and not just here in the U.K. Whinge all you like. It will not change anything. We are all going to have to accept that life is going to be a bit more austere and expensive. So Keep Calm and carry on (eating ginger biscuits, if they are available). It's what "Brits" are supposed to be good at. We have all enjoyed cheap Chinese goods for many years. Now we are experiencing Chinese diseases. What next, Chinese politics / way of life ? Just a little edit. Your last sentence I find deeply offensive with regard to "Chinese Diseases". It is not china's fault it just happened to originate there!!! It could of started anywhere and no doubt other viruses will come and go but to label this covid 19 as there fault is dispicable.
  2. Hi. I'm puzzled why you need a stabilized rx in a Tundra. I have a Tundra and use a lemon 6 channel rx. Never had any twitching problems and it always flys around very stable with no problems at all. It's my most flown model, I use it as a warm up model as it's so stable. In fact nearly all my models have 6 channel lemon rx's in and never had a problem. The Tx is a Spektrum DX9 on DSMX
  3. Why do a lot of you seem to enjoy having a go at ebay sellers, it make me angry some of the comments on here. The guy with the Hurricane he/she does say "built by an expert" they do not neccessarily say it is him/herself!!! Some of you have assumed it is the seller. And any balsa basher on here will know a beautiful swan emerges from every ugly duckling build process. Ebay is an auction site, you see the item in the pictures you check the rating of the seller and make a decission to bid or buy now (if the item has that). If you think an item is over priced or not worth 2 pence you don't bid/buy. It's your choice to go either way. Why is it felt necessary to HAVE A GO at some sellers for trying. Don't forget some people don't realise as they may of been out of the hobby a long time how things and prices have changed. Why can't people just give people a break, there is to much verbal lashing out in this world which some take pleasure from and that saddens me. PS. I am not a ebay seller, I do purchase a lot though and out of 550 plus purchases, I've had 2 problems that were dealt with swiftly by ebay.
  4. Posted by Christopher Morris 2 Funnily enough, i have a Bixler1 & Boomerang plus a Nova 40 & a Bangood Ranger2000. Its been suggested to go a find some hills & practice with the Bixler & Ranger 2000 using as little power as possible to help with just using the controls. Trust me to live in the mountains of Norfolk. lol. Hi Christopher. What about the large sand dunes on the coast, when the wind is in the right direction of course. I don't live over there (I'm South Wales) but visit the broads etc a couple of times a year. The dunes by Horsey Gap and WInterton on sea are quite high, you will get lift off the sea
  5. Why do so many if you on this forum knock ebay sellers. Yes there is some rubbish out there but why knock people for trying to sell it. You make it sound like they are idiots and after all it's the buyer that decides to buy it or not. Also take into account that some of them may well of left the hobby ages ago and not be away of how things and prices have changed. What is rubbish to some is gold to others.
  6. I'm with Flyer and Flyboy 3. I'm in Wales and still on lockdown. The little grumble is the club field is about 5 miles into England, all of the members live in England, I'm the only one in the club that lives in Wales and then it's one mile in. Hay Ho, still have time to finish some new models.
  7. Clear plastic document covers, the type you use when you comb bind pages togeather into booklet form. Another I use is pop bottles make a shaped canopy plug, cut the top off the bottle and wedge the plug tight up against the inside of the bottle using bits of wood as wedges. Use a hot air gun to then shrink/mould the bottle around the plug. Keep the hot gun moving or the plastic will turn white from overheating.
  8. I have a GT Power X4 Charger it's 4 channels at 100W per channel. It can charge 4 batteries at once. You can charge different types of battery at the same time as well. I also have 4, 50watt single channel chargers so technically I can charge 8 batteries at the same time. I tend to only use the GT power charger though. I use them on mains at home, I don't or haven't yet done any field charging. Edited By Keith Sharples on 09/05/2020 12:09:45
  9. This situation is very fluid and in the end when the lockdown starts to lift (more than likely in a phased way) it is still down to individuals to start to do some things or not. I am a photographic judge and lecturer and I have canceled all my bookings until at least February next year and if this lockdown carries on much longer it will be September next Year. I'm desperate to get out on the sticks but I value my life, my loved ones lives and the life of others much much more not to mix to early. So a waiting game. 10. Posted by Martin Arnold 1 on 23/04/2020 13:18:42: Thanks so much Keith, the pipe is fitted and my twin is ready go...........When we are let out of course !! This has lifted my spirits no end in these dark days of doom and gloom, to be in receipt of such a kind gesture. Wow, what a brilliant looking model Martin, and it's good to see the exhaust part on it. I bet it will sound awesome with two FS40s purring away. I loved the sound of the one I did have which the part is off.
  11. Posted by Martin Arnold 1 on 17/04/2020 18:33:57: Posted by Keith Sharples on 17/04/2020 18:19:23: Hi Martin. I have just PM you. I have one. All the best Keith Thanks again Keith, have replied. Martin. I have replied all the best Keith
  12. Hi Martin. I have just PM you. I have one. All the best Keith
  13. I have a Slec stripper which was good but I had issues with variance of thickness of the strips I cut. I now have a Proxxon KS 230 bench saw, to my mind it's a no brainer not to have one. It cuts perfect strips every time. would'nt be with out it now.
  14. Our chairman had an advisory email from the BMFA saying (and it's common sense really) don't cut flying patches as to travel to them to do the job would be classed as a nonessential journey. Which of course it is. SO golf courses, the way I see it if the person doing the cutting has to drive there then no it should not be done NON ESSENTIAL TRAVEL. A grey area is if the person doing the cutting lives on site!! But surely even doing the task itself is non essential. Being a bit cynical, the demographic membership of the majority of golf clubs is of the more ..............well to do ........... have a social standing, especially where I live...... (best way I can put it). To let the golf course go to rack and ruin as seen by the social standing membership as mentioned, is just not on, no matter what the crisis and social restrictions are imposed on us. Now the flying field which is very simular in habitat (isolated) can just go to rack and ruin. Strikes me as one rule them and another for the rest of us. But it still comes down to the NON ESSENTIAL TRAVEL in the end Turned into a bit of a rant sorry.
  15. Up to 8.30pm last night before our excuse of a leader said only essential travel for food shopping, medical, etc. I was going to the field, first break in the weather with light winds. BUT, SO WHAT, STAY HOME, STAY SAFE, SLOW THE SPREAD OF THIS VIRUS TO HELP EACH OTHER. It amazes me how may selfish idiots there are out there, none of which are on this forum!   Edited By Keith Sharples on 24/03/2020 09:22:53
  16. Mine up to recently 2-3 weeks. I've not ordered since this corona virus has raised it's head.
  17. It seriously saddens me that there are so may moaning, stupid, gretins in this hobby. The law is the law whether we like it or not. The BMFA have done a stirling job in holding back the reins of possible imposed legislation and getting us a better deal and all some can do is whine and winge. If the BMFA (and other model flying organisations) had not stepped in where would we be now. The more that don't follow the law the more difficult it will be for all of us in the end.

Posted by Geoff Sleath on 14/12/2019 12:26:51: Posted by Adrian Smith 1 on 14/12/2019 10:50:46: Yes thumbs up to the BMFA I avoided all the long speculative threads (life's too short, for me anyway!) and just put my faith in the BMFA to do its stuff. Yes, me too. I think they've done a great job. I renew through my model club but I did the CAA £9 'contribution' through the portal with no problems. I also made a small contribution to Buckminster partly because I enjoyed the RCME fly-in so much, so congrats all round from me. Geoff Ditto from me. All those forum pages of grumpys going on and on, I put my trust in the BMFA to fight our corner and they have done a very admirable job trying to keep our hobby as near as possible as we like it. A very very big thumbs up to them
  19. Paypal charge the seller a percentage of the sale for using their service. Some companies add this charge to the sale total which increases the final total. I used to use Paypal with my business for years. It made payment very easy for clients but I had to pay the sale percentage to Paypal, I just obsorbed it and didn't pass it on to the client. It looks like Hobby King do pass it on to the client. That is why usung your credit card as a direct payment didn't have the additional charges added as it was not a Paypal transaction.
  20. Posted by Pete B - Moderator on 22/11/2019 17:31:21: Gents, it's sad to see that the subject has reached the stage where forumites are sniping and bitching at each other here, when modellers throughout Europe and further afield have been presented with a fait accompli, despite the best efforts of the various national bodies to make the 'best of a bad deal' for their members. I think we're really just collateral damage in a wave of populism in the political world. Putting it into perspective, I suspect there's a lot more of consequence in our lives coming down the road towards us..... Pete It also saddens me that a bunch of guys and ladies (I assume) who have a love of model making/flying are getting so wound up and using this forum to have a go at each other. To me it's simple, you can't escape the fact that a law has been made. You either legally comply or you don't. If you do, you have a choice of either the CAA route or if a member of the BMFA go that route. And for (in the scheme of things with regard to the cost of doing the hobby in the first place) £9 and the test you can continue to fly legally. WE EACH MAKE OUR OWN MIND UP, there is no need to whine and have a go at each other about it at all. Being a BMFA member I have followed their suggestions and waited until updates on what is heppening and when it is happening are announced.
  21. Surely it should be a bloke in a boiler suit holding a very sexy curvy uncovered traditional build balsa plane, that would equally excite some
  22. Posted by PatMc on 14/11/2019 17:49:14: Posted by Andrew Calcutt on 14/11/2019 16:13:33: Because of hobbyking most of the models shops have closed, Nonsense. Take a look at retail in general across the UK. The stores/shops that didn't adapt to modern retail trading trends have either disappeared or been taken over. It's the traders who offer customers the most attractive overall packages who survive. Agree with PatMc, so much is done online now the High street is suffering or it has to evolve. Saying that I recently order through their web site a GT power 4 X charger from Kings Lynn Models (an actual high street shop and the best price I could find!) Within 10mins of placing the order online they rang, it was out of stock but some were arriving with them 2 days later and I would have mine the next day would it be a problem? It wasn't. The day in question arrived and so did my charger Well done Kings Lynn Models. They sound like that have evolved to cope with national online sales perfectly. 23. Never had a problem with Hobby King UK and EU warehouses all arrived perfect and on time inc Lipos. I'll continue to use them. As mentioned did Tigerman have one of those odd post codes that can be a problem?
  24. It is of concern the dwindling numbers in the hobby. I feel Its dwindling as the hobby is quite strongly related to those that are of a certain age! Young blood needs to be attracted into the hobby but how to do it is the problem. Perhaps clubs at (using a political saying) grass roots level should be more proactive in attracting young people into the hobby. Maybe open days for parents to bring along youngsters. Take flying demos along to summer fetes ( I know there would be insurance issues). Have club display stands at summer fetes and talk to people etc etc. I'm sure some of these have been done by some clubs with probably varying degrees of success. At the LMA Cosford show this year they ran 2 flight lines and had flight slots inviting anyone who had not flown before to have a go. It looked very successful and must of sparked off some to get involved in the hobby. What I'm getting at really is, the hobby overall is slowly dwindling in numbers so it's up to those left to reinvent the hobby. Clubs and club members get togeather and try different ways of tempting young blood to join. Some will work some won't but keep plugging away at it. Just sitting and saying it's dwindling and not try something is not good. Something a bit different I know but I joined my local camera club (photography, my other hobby) 3 years ago. That first year I went to the AGM, the treasurer advised how the club was doing and membership was dwindling (at the time 14) causing finance problems. They then proceeded to come up with, we need to cut this, cut that, not meet so often etc etc to save money. It was all doom and gloom. My thought was not cut anything but get more members. I suggested this but it fell on stoney ground as no one would move on the idea. Anyway my wife (also mad on photography) and I took the idea on board. We organised exhibitions, had a market stall displaying pictures from the club, ran classes open to non club members etc now 2 years later membership is 27 and last year we had a little surplus money left at the end of the season so it can be done. RC modeling is a different hobby but come on I'm sure there is some way to attract some young blood.
