  1. Probably the best opening post I've ever read on a forum! A very warm welcome....

  3. Just my thoughts but if your going down the route of adding a reduction gearbox then why not go the whole way and develop a engine that's "A true 4 stroke" with in sump lubrication? if nothing else it'll put a end to the how much oil is to much debate. The gearbox idea is a great one btw, surprised it's not a common feature on larger engines ( of any brand).   Edited By paul d on 09/07/2020 09:36:41
  4. I use auto finesse "revive", it's a automotive plastic and rubber dressing but any product sold to give you wet look tyres will do tbh.
  5. Had exactly the same problem with mine but I've cured it by drilling a hole through the plastic collar and main shaft to allow me to use a Tommy bar to tighten the collar, the shaft is only chromed brass so fairly soft.
  6. You can substitute paraffin for white spirit, kerosene or jet fuel, apparently white spirit smells far less once burnt. Can't answer the oil question although I would only ever use castor as most of my engines are old and I feel it offers the best protection.
  7. I'd be interested Nigel! please pm me.
  8. I fly diesels exclusively, I don't own any glows or electrics, fuels no problem, local model shop ( addlestone models) stock it, it's not cheap but as I only use small capacity engines it lasts ages.
  9. I'm with Test pilot, use em or lose em! I haven't needed much lately but the bits I did need I got from my local model shop ( addlestone models).
  10. I agree with cymaz, have a look inside before scrapping it, you may well able to give it a new lease of life for a few pounds.
  11. That'll be D2000 then! Thanks for the clarification Phil, as I fly diesels exclusively and only ever use MT fuels I thought I was going mad! I would use 1000 in a dart and 2000 in a new PAW
  12. Slightly off topic but I can't find any reference to D1500 on model technics site ?
  13. I would go for a small diesel, with no throttle there much more controllable, just back off the compression! A paw .55 would be my choice if looking for a new engine or something like a DC Dart if you want the real vintage experience.
  14. I've lost the odd wheel in the past oh and I had all the carefully applied trim fly off from a Hooligan ( remember them?) in front of most of the club...I was only young! Years before I did find a mill's 1.3 complete with bearers and prop in the middle of a local common, no other signs of wreckage and I've always assumed it "fell off" ??

Nah! Seeing what happens down at the field, you're right it wouldn't happen with a glow or diesel. Usually they just don't run at all. Please, please, PLEASE don't let this thread turn into an electric vs IC battle! Tim. Of course not Tim, only my attempt at a little humour, no offence intended...apologies...

  17. Congratulations David, pleased but not surprised it went well.
  18. Superb David, a first class job sir, best of luck for the maiden, love the script on the elevator!
  19. M8 can either be 1.mm pitch ( fine) or 1.25mm (coarse) if that helps? Suggest you measure the crank thread, with a .25mm difference between fine and coarse you should be able to measure the pitch with a rule etc. Edited By paul d on 31/05/2020 09:54:16
  20. Quite like eze dope, no smell and water dilution and clean up by it's not as easy to use as real dope, it's very easy to get puddles. here's a couple of props I've made just to mess with you mind!! The balsa one is frankly awfull, far to thick and I made it out of to soft material, it's replacement ( for my half size Wakefield) is made from 8 laminations of lite ply, far thinner and efficient but obviously heavier ( just removing the nose weight sorts that though!)   Edited By paul d on 29/05/2020 11:27:34

  22. Looking Good Dwain. Are you going to use the kit prop?
  23. Hi David, PAW sell "laystraite" control line wire in various gauges. hope that helps.
  24. I agree Steve, my first ever engine was a SS40, had it for years in several models, I gave it away to a chap eventually and the last I heard it was still given the occasional outing. Think I remember they had cast iron piston?? I know it's drifting somewhat but what's the situation with getting Enyas now?
