my elder brother cycled to tangmere to watch the hunter take off, then belted back to bognor regis to see it fly past going for the record -
we waited till 8pm to leave the show and there was still a fair queue to get out. we live about 30 miles away in bognor regis but had to detour around pulbourgh as there was a fatal accident there on sunday. followed a horse box at 20mph for miles got home at 20 to ten. well worth it though briliant show

How To Make A Spitfire With A 2 Pence Piece
Phil Claridge replied to stephen courtney's topic in Chit-chat
hi folks, i was making spits from old penny's fifty years ago. no heating or hammering, just fold in half then cut a horizontal line to where the wing starts, move back the width of the wing chord and cut a vertical line a nd fold flat dop the same at the back for the tail plane, use some scrap that you have cut off to make the fin, run a line of solder along the fold to take the fin and fill the crease, a large blob of solder forms the cockpit. then get busy with a file. i used to make about three a day, solder them to safety pins and give them to friends -

Phil Claridge replied to stuey's topic in General Electric Flight Chat
i still fly a mk1 twin star with 400 brushed motors and gunther props, covered with brown paper and sprayed with grey primer, which has made the wing a lot stiffer. it belonged to my brother who has sadly passed on. i am also modifieing a multiplex cargo to run 4 brushless motors with 7by4 3 bladed props regards phil -

You thought you had problems with black wire corrosion?
Phil Claridge replied to Shaunie's topic in Chit-chat
had a central doorlocking and immobiliser problem on my old peugeot 806 spent three weeks looking for an ecu which didnt exist was told to look for a black box under the steering wheel which turned out to be a grey box hidden under a plate only visible if you were laying on the floor looking up, took that off sent it to a company in london cost £80 returned an fitted did diddly squat. their mobile man came and faffed about for 2 hours and got nowhere. all forum tips tried ziltch finnaly towed it to a auto electrician. he fixed it whith one new wire but it took him 2 hours to find it -

erfolg, i can heartily reccomend Tangmere musium. i live about five miles away, they have a good selection of aircraft and engines. and a small but quite nice cafe. there is excelent golf to be had at goodwood house just a few mil;es up the road. also you could combine the goodwood festival of speed or goodwood revival meeting with a tangmere visit over a weekend

Any thoughts on versatile first low wing iC plane
Phil Claridge replied to Nigel Finch's topic in Trainer kits
park zone trojan, its tough, handles wind well and enough power to get you out of some ridiculous situations, uses cheap 3s 2200 lipo lands easily and is a lots of fun. fits the car fully rigged and is the first plane i fly every time i go flying -
my brother covered a twinstar with brown paper and used halfords grey primer, stiffened the wings a great deal and plane flew better than uncovered
-
ps, i'm going to use it to fix micro servoes when they go wrong (smash them)

it's not nailed to the bench thunderstreak, thats a rod tip, must admit it does look like a nail though. the old girl has stopped diappearing and is lurking about on my bench behind me just waiting to pounce when the time is right

a driver i worked with was preparing a train for start of service early one morning . he swithed the train on to let the compressors pump up the air for the brakes but didnt check the hand brake was fully on. the train ran away along the sidings but was stopped from going on the main line by catch points, these derailed the train straight in to the side of bognor signal box desroying the boxes toilet. the signal man had used the toilet 5 minuites before so he was a very lucky fella. this caused mayhem for a few days and cost southern a good few pounds
