The Multiplex Cockpit SX 2.4gig
Frank Skilbeck replied to Rick Devonshire's topic in Other Radio Brands
It takes a little while to begin with as the programming is different than the Far East sets, but once it clicks you realise what a flexible set it is. The only downside is that for a glider with a 4 servo wing plane you need to use a 7 channel Rx due to the channel assignments. -
Building my new Fournier RF-4
Frank Skilbeck replied to Peter Miller's topic in Peter Miller plan builders
Posted by Peter Miller on 19/12/2010 18:35:47: Luckily I am stocked up and can last for two weeks without going out...much to the disgust of my next door neighbour. I seem to provide her transport a lot of the time along with a lot of other people. Edited By Peter Miller on 19/12/2010 18:36:25 Good to hear you have lots of balsa in...................... Fournier looks really nice. @import url(http://www.modelflying.co.uk/CuteEditor_Files/Style/SyntaxHighlighter.css);@import url(/CuteEditor_Files/public_forums.css); -
Model Diversity
Frank Skilbeck replied to Steve Hargreaves - Moderator's topic in Flying Field Reports and Chat
Mmm, not so many glow models ready to go at present, just a Cap 232 and Fokker Dvii, but several electrics, inc High Wing, Warbirds, EDF and 3D, then there the gliders from flying wings to 1/4 scale. When the weather is better I will usually take 3 models to the field or slope with me, but for now I tend to stick to a couple of electrics. -
Dave on mine, built quite a few years ago and also covered in Solartex I just cut strips of Solartex, hinged the underside first and then the top. I had mine top hinged, I can't remember if that is the standard. Painted it over with Solarfilm Clearcote for fuel proofing and it was fine over several seasons flying.

Spektrum? Futaba? Hitec? JR? or XXXXX for £63
Frank Skilbeck replied to Steve W-O's topic in General Radio Discussion
I looked on their E Bay shop and couldn't find any 2.4 Rx's above 3 channel ones, are these easily avaulable by themself. Also the modulation is noted at GFSK is that a frequency hopping system? -
Not here yet in Gloucestershire

Great paint job, I've had two of these but only flown them standard, they go really well on the 3 blade fan so should be even better on the 5 blade. Just make sure it's launched level and not nose up, if its launched nose up it goes into a deep stall, no airflow over the elevator and not enough power to punch out, ask me how I know . But that aside if launched level it gets away really well.

You can also bind several Rx's to one memory slot if you want as well, I have all my indoor heli's bound to one memory slot as they all use the same settings. Same with my Parkzone Sukhoi 26 and Flyingwings Yak 725 which uses a Hobbyking 4 channel DSM 2 Rx.

Better still use it as an excuse to buy a petrol engine and model to go with it.............
-
Do you mean elevon mix not flapperon? Flaperon is when the flap switch is mixed with ailerons All you need to do is reverse the direction of one of the servos and possible switch the Rx ports the servos are plugged into if you can't get aileron and elevator working in the correct direction.
-
I've got two Tx's each with 10 models and guess what, they are both full..........

If you have a lipo charger then what you are looking to buy will do the job, but maybe a single 4s battery (16.8v fully charged) would do the job.

Why not a slow speed retract servo?
Frank Skilbeck replied to Simon Chaddock's topic in Model Engineering and Accessories
The new type of electrical all in one screw jack retracts are quite slow, I can see these catching on now they are being supplied in reasonable numbers. -
Can this edf motor be used as a normal motor
Frank Skilbeck replied to r6dan's topic in Electric Ducted Fan
In theory yes, but on 3s battery it will try to run at around 40,000 rpm, so thats a very small prop. Or fit a gear box, but in reality a lower KV outrunner would probably not cost any more than a suitable gearbox. What plane is it for. -
As a sport EDF the Fantom is pretty good and uses regular 2100 mah 3S lipo's easy to launch and goes quite well. Mines about 3 years old now, looks a bit tatty but still flies very well.

needed juice for my 645MG servos on a sparrowhwak
Frank Skilbeck replied to gazzazh's topic in All Things Model Flying
Yes see my edit, note with a LiFe cell you don't need a regulator as they are lower voltage than a Lipo, but you do need a compatible charger, http://www.electricwingman.com/product.aspx?product=984 -

Frank Skilbeck replied to gazzazh's topic in All Things Model Flying
Capacity is not the main consideration, you need to make sure you can delivery the amps, so I'd avoid high capacity AA packs which while fine at low amps can have a high internal resistance which means the volts drop off if you push them, I'd go for a 5 cell sub C pack or even a 2s LiFe pack if you have a suitable charger. Edit - what you've shown above or something like this from a UK supplier Edited By Frank Skilbeck on 30/11/2010 07:48:08 -
This is an old model, a friend of mine had one in the early 80's, went really well on two OS .10 cu maxs, no real bad habits even with one motor out, apart from you couldn't taxi on one engine........... Was a very nice flier as I recall. 2 x 300w is probably a bit of an overkill, but you can adjust the prop size to bring the power down. I'm looking forward to the build.

Mark If you are using a 6 channel Rx I'd do this Canards into the elevator socket Ailerons into aileron and aux 1 (flap)Select dual wing aileron in menu, you now have elevator on the canard and ailerons on the wing (and you can program in differential aileron if you like). Then in the free mixs, mix elevator to flap and you then have canard and ailerons working as elevator and you can use the mix switch to switch them in and out as you experiment.

I was out this morning, -3 DegC, just a couple of small electrics, I kept the batteries in my pocket to keep them warm. I flew for 90 mins and just as I was leaving somebody else truned up, but the rest must have stayed indoors. But apart from the cold the flying conditons were ace and I had a ball with my Parkzone Su26 xp.

I have the new Parkzone Sukhoi and tried it in a basketball sized gym we use, its too fast really for this size of gym and you spend all your time just trying to miss the walls. My flyingwings YAK 725 is much better and is easilly repairable with a hot glue gun. If you don't like profile models look at the Kyosho Minium series, my Citabria is really easy to fly indoors, but if you want aerobatics then a profile model is the way to go.

PrecisionAerobatics models
Frank Skilbeck replied to Granddad's topic in Sport, Aerobatic and 3D kits
Andy, there's a big advert in this months RCME, but I note they are saying models are shipped direct from manufacturer, although they are still on Als website as well. But the Addiction is a great model I've had mine for a couple of years now and it still get flown on a regular basis. -
