Mid life crisis prevention required
Alan Hilton replied to David Hazell 1's topic in Why Not Say Hello....
Hi David The Max Thrust Riot is absolutely the way to go for a trainer .You can build something scale while relearning your flying skills. I wouldn’t recommend a biplane for a second model ,they take more flying skills and tend to only fly well in calm conditions . If you don’t want a scale second model a Chris Foss acrowot is a very good kit and they fly very well. .DB kits are very good ,the auster would make a nice flyable model Alan -

Alan Hilton replied to Ken Lighten's topic in Scale and Semi-Scale kits
My one piece wing pup has a laser 200 and weighs about 18 pounds .I used car wheel balancing weighs stuck to the front inside of the cowl to achieve the recomended c of g .Getting the weight as far forward as possible is the way to go Alan -

Hi Geoff I have had a quick internet search with no result .It looks like a long running job ,I haven’t seen anything like it in many years mucking about with clocks Alan
-
Hi Geoff Quite a beast you have there .Both spring barrels drive the going train,so it’s a long runner of some type It looks clean so it only wants oiling . Don’t use 3 in 1 it’s acidic ,sewing machine oil is OK . Take the hands and dial off and put a drop of oil in each of the oil sinks .Use a piece of fine ish wire to pick up the oil and place it . Don’t go near the escapement with oil . It should be ok to run now .It looks like both trains need to be wound equally ,see how long it runs between winds. Alan

Hi Geoff Its most likely a balance wheel escapement going by the regulating adjuster at 12 o clock .It also proberbly a striker of some sort .Two trains in a clock without any obvious other function like a clocking in mechanism means it strikes Could you post a pic of the back of the clock please so we can get access to thee movement I can advise on how to get it running . Alan

Hi Geoff I have the big one and it needed a lot of nose weight .I used self adhesive car wheel balancing weights inside the cowl which have stoo the test of time (and glow fuel ) Alan -
I have made several heavy sleeved prop nuts / spinner adapters out of 19 mm hex section and a matching prop washer out of 22 mm bright steel bar, about 10 mm thick .This adds quite a bit of weight ,and have no problems. Alan

I fixed a 90 size heli engine with a hole in the crankcase with JB .It was for a mate who deals in rubbish and I didn’t think it stood any chance of working .It was compleatly successful and has lasted for many flights so far Alan

The most up to date power supply is to use a 3 or 4 cell lipo and an esc with a nichrome wire bow .I have no experience with this setup but if you go onto the RCMF forum a member PDR is expert on this .I use a 240 to 25 volt transformer and a big series wound variable resistor in series. This works well but I scrounged the hardware ,I think the cost of ‘this ser upwould be far too high if bought new Alan
