  1. I didn't know the U.S. navy did crop spraying. Maybe it's a feeder for fish farmimng. 🤣
  2. I doubt it, according to the number of times I have cut out a disjointed plan (too big to go on one sheet) and then tried to match up the two ends. I can't remember one ever fitting 100%. Most scanners tend to wander slightly towards the edge, or if they are large format slip a little. Usually for our purposes it is within tollerance (unlike some balsa, which can vary depending on the weather). Fortunately most of us don't work to engineering specs ! (well apart from maybe Jon 🤣)
  3. Scots Pine with an attitude problem ? Horse Chestnut seeking revenge on small boys (from years ago) ? Or just another "plane eating tree" ? (see my avatar)
  4. I think in the future that the International competitions will probably be monopolised by the Ukrainians.
  5. Hi. I'm still working on them. Had the first ones formed, but with a few problems. Hoping to get them sorted soon.
  6. And I can remember when you had to take a wheel barrow to the shop in order to carry home a Mars Bar, they were that big !
  7. The answer is "it's not" I have just built one and in my opinion there are too many inaccuracies in the plan and build notes for a novice builder. It was not a difficult build, but required experienced building techniques to overcome some of the problems I was presented with while building (call it second guessing and Modify on the hoof"). There are several areas on the plan where the geometry does not work. I will say though, that it turned out a nice model and the man I built it for is really pleased. I was impressed with the pilot he 3D printed for it. It also balanced spot on without any additional nose weight and I had built the rear fuselage from spruce. Overall a nice model (if you like the style), but certainly not one for a novice to build.
  8. Here you are Eric. Your next Depron project. 🤣
  9. No, that was Magic Roundabout (and don't mention Captain Pugwash).
  10. Richard is currently running a thread (the big question) regarding the building of scale models. This query is aimed at all you newbies who are enjoying this great hobby. The perceived problem is the lack of new model "builders", with many just buying almost ready to fly models. It would be interesting to find out what are the issues that put fliers of building their own models from kits, or plans and not just scale models. Is there anything those of us with building experience can do to address these issues ? I would prefer to hear from those of you reasonably new to the hobby, or don't build (with reason) but if anybody else has something constructive to add please do so.
  11. Hi Richard. I have been following this thread with great interest (and a little input). From my experience with talking to newbies the problem with kit building is not the price. Nor is it the construction technique, or materials. The biggest thing that puts them off is the finishing. That is the covering and/or painting, but mainly the covering. Unfortunately there is no "easy fix". Most of the contributors to this thread are onboard with your quest and extremely positive (as am I). As you know, I have had some involvement in kit production and am currently reverse engineering many of the old Marutaka kits (for my own pleasure !). When I complete them (on the forum) to the covering stage there is usually little, if no interest form anybody wanting to finish them off. However if I finish off the covering I have no problem finding a new owner. I have also done some costings generally on producing a scale model. These are generalisations. The cost of covering and painting is usually about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of the airframe and the undercarriage can be as much as the rest of the model, including servos ! So £140.00 for your kit is not expensive. Keep up the good work.
  12. Now, now children. play nicely. The model is already completed as far as I am concerned. So all it needs now is a new owner to finish it off.
  13. While waiting for paint to dry. Does anybody want to finish of a 53ins span Spitfire MkV ? It has been set up to take an electric motor and retracts. I have used it as a demonstration piece for one of our new members, who wants to build scale models. More photos to follow.
