Tim Mackey
I never use that abbreviation.... just IMO I find many of those who do use it, are far from humble - BEB exempt of course
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Oh and one thing you may not know Jo, "Marigolds" are a make of rubber glove worn by ladies to keep their hands and nails attractive when they need to wash dishes etc! Apparently Tim wears them when handling IC engines! I'll ask David to put "Marigolds" in the glossary BEB
Tim Mackey
Not sure where this marigold thing started from - all I said was that you IC lot need to allow some budget for your baby wipes - for cleaning all that 'orrible gunge off.I strenuously deny ever having worn or of having intention to wear, rubber garments of any description - that is, until the nurse says I must for the benefit of the chambermaids PS Jo - I still have an SC 91 four stroke in my Spitfire - but can never be bothered with all the paraphernalia needed to get it up to the filed and flying these days. Tim Mackey
I think we are off topic here Mr BEB
Josip Vrandecic -Mes
Hi Tim , IMHO (as BEB says) your Spitty is really pretty ... Cheers Jo.
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Yeah, will have to mod each other! To get back on topic - for all the faults the rivet counters will find I still think its a lovely model and it could certainly find a home in my hangar! Tim Mackey
I agree - and it will probably find one in mine too.....leccy of course
Dave Bryan
Just picked up a kit at Weston Park ?219.99, didnt expect to see one!
Dave Bryan
Just got back from Weston and managed to have a good look at the kit. First impressions are that the quality is excellent, the pilot is a little on the large side but should be easy enough to replace as the canopy is screwed on. The cowling is gorgeous with the exhaust stacks moulded in, it will be a shame to cut half of it off for a cylinder head and exhaust so may have to go electric with this. The guy from Inwoods said the model is limited to a production run of 100, find this a little hard to believe but if numbers are limited then I bet it will sell like hotcakes. David Ashby - Moderator
I think there will be a few more than that as you say Dave. What electric set-up were you thinking of?
Dave Bryan
Not really had chance to investigate yet, i guess it will have to be a 1kw setup. Biggest downside is that the wing will have to be removed to change the battery.
Tim Mackey
Ah, thats a bummer - maybe you could use A123 cells, and then you can charge in-situ? I think its very odd ( and somewhat shortsighted of them ) to market this, especially as its under the E scale brand yet not have made proviso for the leccy brigade .Edited By Tim Mackey - Administrator on 19/06/2011 10:56:
winchweight
Not so Tim.I picked mine up today and it comes with a leccy conversion kit and manual which covers conversion.Overall first impressions are good but the pilot must go. Now... leccy or glow? Seems a shame to cut the cowl, but leccy will sound rubbish on a Seafire.
Bucksboy
It looks lovely, it has a very strong resemblance to the Seagull brand. I've just built a Seagull Harmon Rocket and the size and shape of the aileron covers is exactly the same. Hope to see one at W and W this weekend.Bucks
Danny Fenton
Mmmmmm I really would like one of these, would look nice alongside my Sea Fury...... A123 naturally, The Fury is 6S2P and sound just great, as Tim says charge in situ.... Cheers Danny
Robin James
Got mine Monday, thanks Swindon Model Centre, quality first class and packing but the decals were crumpled the bag they were in had some how shrunk? but think they are useable. Think electric is the way to go so as not to spoil the lines and yes i know a IC FS would sound good but why not fit a sound system they aint a bank breaker. The biggest let down for me was the undercart far far from being any where near scale, may be able to bring closer to scale with the new electric retracts as they come in 3 types and i believe the 80 degree set may be close. Keiran Arnold
Just for the record the Aircraft this model was based on was involved in a forced landing yesterday. Fortunatly the pilot Anna Walker walked away uninjured and although damaged the aircraft appears to be repairable and should fly again
Danny Fenton
Good spot there Kieran. Looks like the nose was nice and high on touchdown...... good bit of flying Flickr pictures.... CheersDanny
Hugh Coleman
"Aircraft this model was based on" You see, that's a low rear fuselage mark and the model has a high rear fuselage! Agh! I give up. Hugh
Keiran Arnold
Hugh, "Aircraft this model was based on" since as you have highlighted its not an exact scale replica. The kit vcarries the markings of the aircraft based at Nth Weald but as you are aware there are several errors in the manufacture.I'm sure a keen modeler can modiify the aircraft to be a truer scale model ut for many the will be happy to have a 'Spitfire' Keiran
