Simon B
Found this Spit on Ebay. It looks awfully like the ripmax one, but when I emailed the guy he doesn't know if it is or not. Also he says it's unfinished because it needs an undercarriage, which the Ripmax one doesn't have. Probably being overly paranoid, but i'm wondering how he came upon the model when he seems to know so little about it. I'm watching it because I want a new wing and this would be a good way of doing it, but it's very odd.Edited By Simon B on 02/09/2011 23:26:

Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
The line "I don't know anything about model aeroplanes" seems to be an absolutely standard one. I've seen ad after ad make the same claim. Maybe its true - oh, look at that flying pig I assume its someway of disclaiming any liability for the item - "I don't know if its any good". As I say heard it so many times now I just take it with a pnch of salt. BEB
Simon B
Yeah. I'm looking for a wing only and this one looks in good nick, so i'm willing to take a chance I think. Never seen someone try and convert one of these to stinky power though...

How could you say such a thing Simon - ISTR that the greatly lamented Lord Boddington did just that - after all, real models have living, breathing engines. Electric motors are fine for toys and foamy playthings of course... Where's the emoticon for a tin helmet! I doubt there's anything untoward here - the seller specialises in model cars and trains and probably picked this up in a job lot. He appears to be local to me and it hasn't come from my club as far as I know. Edited By Martin Harris on 02/09/2011 23:56:
David Ashby - Moderator
As you say Simon, it's the Rippo leccy Spit that someone's started to converted to i.c.. That fuel tank looks a long way back though.
Frank Skilbeck
If you look at his other items he has lots of toy cars, a vintage radio abd some other airplane memorabilia, looks like a bit of a collector. Looks like he's interested in aviation but not an RC modeller, so looks fairly genuine to me.
Pete B
You might be able to do a deal with Timbo, Simon - you need a wing - he needs a fus - everyone's happy! Pete
Peter Miller
Definitely a bit of a dealer. I would guess he got the Spitfire as part of a job lot.

Tim Mackey
PS...it looks in as new condition, and these are circa £80 these days, so go for it. !
Simon B
I'll keep watching it and see what the price does. I work for a LHS, so if it starts hitting £60 i'll not bother.
