J V R
So after a couple of years flying electric models I have moved on to IC planes, whats the best way to clean the oilly mess off the plane after a days flying??
Andy Ennis
I've always used old tea towels or paper towels and a kitchen spray cleaner like Mr. Muscle. Baby wipes are supposed to be very good too.
Vecchio Austriaco
If you fly glow methylated spirit is the right solvent. Window cleaner normally also contains methylated spirit and works well. After cleaning with paper towels go over it with a micro fibre cloth. (my be you find one in your wife's / girlfriends collection ) VA, mainly flying electric as he doesn't like the mess.... Peter Miller
Mr Muscle Kitchen Cleaner is my favourite and a soft white cloth from the Co-op When my new windows were fitted I was given a huge spray of window cleaner by the company. I might try that.

Mr Muscle, Tesco floor and wall cleaner - any MILD detergent in a handy spray bottle.
Seamus O'Leprosy
I don't know my Butler cleans them for me, I'll ring the bell and ask him.
Martin Harris - Moderator
I've used all of the above in the past but I discovered babywipes recently and they are amazingly effective.
Lazygit
I connect a piece of silicone rubber tube 8mm or 10mm ID to the silencer, and tie it to one of the UC legs. You still have to clean some oil at the end of the day, but it's nowhere near as much.

Vecchio Austriaco
@ Bob Cotsford Solarlac paint to put on the black list - but if a paint is fuel proof or there is fuel proofer on top the methylated spirit shouldn't do any harm. Its just alcohol - a mixture from aethanol and methanol. cheers VA
Ben B
Baby wipes are indeed the things to use. I've tried various recipes for cleaners but baby wipres do wonders. I tend to use 3-4. 2-3 for the plane and one for my hands! One advantage is that they last for yonks, I've been using the same packet for about six months! Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Baby wipes are good - but I use them in the "second phase" as otherwise as you need 3-4 each plane from sratch, the amount I fly that would soon empty a packet. I just put some water, with a dash of washing up liquid, in a spray bottle. I get the thick off with that and then finish off with a baby wipe - lovely! Bob Cotsford
A couple of years dry! It definitely lifted colour on my Joker, which came as real surprise.
