I use it for the ignition battery as that sits under the tank. Looks nice have you one of it completed

bert baker
I’ve been looking at the various cowls I have to hand whist not wanting a long scale debate as for me it just covers up the engine I’m wondering where a all the variants come from and who produces them, It’s quite possible that some or all aren’t actual Stampe ones, Perhaps a Moth Or a Chipmunk I care not I know Carbon copy did one in glass cloth

Steve Dunne
I too used the SLEC GRP cowl - very substantial, and I was easily able to cut hinged access doors from them. Recommended.
bert baker
I’ve been lazy for a while now of doing stuff I was going to fit the Laser 180 into one of my Stampe’s but just can’t be bothered with the fuel tank issue, it would be easier to modify a new kit build, but I still Would prefer to go petrol, Dan’s in the proses of getting one airworthy with a Saito 40cc four-stroke, I’m half tempted to do the same but did happen to notice the OS 40 petrol four-stroke is slightly cheaper but may be a bit lower on performance of the Saito
Peter Jenkins
My experience of Saito 180 is that it's of average power but vibrates like crazy. The 150 has slightly less vibration but OS 160s are as smooth as silk and don't spit their silencers off on every other flight! Oh, and yes, the prop was balanced! I have no experience of a Saito 40cc petrol but my Saito 100 is smooth as silk. It might be wise to see if you can check the vibration on a Saito 40 cc running. Just saying. cymaz
I may be ridiculed .....but the Evolution 33gx fits nicely in the cowl, just a small piece of muffler on the outer port side. The downside is its not a 4t. NGH 30 maybe? If you can find a good one.
Paul De Tourtoulon
I have the Saito FG-30, other than the weak con rod and first star bubble issues it's a dream to fly and hear.

bert baker
It’s a possibility have noted the low rpm the different array of fuel mixes on the petrol four strokes is a bit of a worry

bert baker
All ready to cover, Although ow would have been better if I could get 1.2M of Solartex Satin Cub Yellow I've primed it with some Cover Grip Be interesting to see how it compares to Balsaloc Ive ordered the paint
cymaz
I’m now leaning towards using nylon and dope. Easy to apply once the proper preparation has been done. Paint adheres well to it and it stays very tight.
