Mike Hardy
Hi, XT60 connector is there a wiring convention? ie does the +ve lead go on to the 'square' end or the 'chamfer' end. Mike.
kc
XT 60 are marked with a ' plus' sign for positive. ( on the square edge) I think it is also conventional to put the male part on the Lipo.
Sparks
+ lead to the square end. If you look closely at the X60 connector, you will see the + and - signs are moulded on the edges.
Mike Hardy
Thanks kc and sparks, I did notice the + sign moulded in just after I posted, needed a magnifying glass to make sure!! I will also make sure the male part is placed on the Li-Po. Mike.
Mike Hardy
**LINK** Which is the male part? is the above link correct Mike
Pete B
No. it's not, Mike. That might have 'male' pins but it's the female half of the connector. The pins on that connector could still be shorted quite easily. The other half of the connector, with the female sockets shrouded in plastic, should be used for the Li-Po. Despite having made up a couple of dozen XT60's, and having the + sign embossed on the connector, I still once managed to have a rush of nothing to the head and wire up a new 60A ESC the wrong way. You wouldn't believe how quickly the magic smoke escaped - but only slightly faster than my tears... You only do it once..... Pete
Mike Hardy
All very confusing, can you post a pic of the XT60 part that should be connected to the Li-Po. Thanks Mike.
Pete B
Sample of how they are supplied here, Mike. Yes, this business of male and female connectoirs is very confusing - I've seen the same discussion over the JST connectors. I disregard the pins and just consider which part of the housing is male or female when describing them..... Pete
malcolm woodcock 1
I've had the same problem. The American market seem to go by the plug and the British seem to go by the pins. It crops up in the description of servo leads where they are described as male to male but having gone by the pins, I would describe as female to female, it's all very confusing. Keith Berriman
Hello Mike H Definately for safety the Battery Connection should be the Female XT60 part so the connectors are shrouded inside the unit like your sockets in the home , and the esc has the male pins of the xt 60 like your 13 Amp plug top
John Privett
If you look at the pic in the link posted by Mike 6 posts above, you can see that a coin or a key or something similar could very easily short out the two pins. Now if that connector was the one attached to the battery we'd be seeing fireworks... Edited By John Privett on 22/06/2013 12:09:
Dwain Dibley.
The male pins are in the female part which is the ESC plug side. The female pins are in the male part which is the battery plug side. D.D.
kc
It's all very confusing! I was talking about the plastic part when I referred to male. The Lipo has the part that cannot easily be shorted out by a screwdriver or anything else, if that makes it clearer.
Mike Hardy
Thanks all, I can see the XT60 is definitely bi-sexual!! Mike.
