Andy Green
No I didn't, but with 1/16 sheet before the ply plate is it necessary? I expect it will compress over time anyway. Andy
kc
Well I wondered if that's why you were looking into the incidence.I would expect the bolts to compress the balsa and maybe not the same front and rear therefore changing the incidence or maybe changing it from flight to flight.Danny's photo shows how he neatly cut around the alloy and removed the balsa. Andy Green
The front cabane assembly is still still loose, not fixed at either end. Wanted to get the incidence right (?) and fixed to the fuse, then the lateral positioning, with the holes into the wing. All very empirical. Danny Fenton
Andy can you take a pic of the forward cabane to fus section of the plan. I think I can see a reason....CheersDanny
Danny Fenton
Ignore that last post Andy, I checked my drawing and yourcabane mounting looks the same as mine. Which considering the other similarites between the Barnstorme/Bistormer makes sense..... Andy Green
Thanks Danny The front mount is as per plan. Thing is its probably me, measured its 2.3 degrees, and from crude measurement from plan its 3, which is close enough. I think my initial guess was at fault. Danny Fenton
I try to keep things simple on these models Andy, I try and build them as accurately to the plan as I can, ie as the designer intended, leave the designer to worry about incidences etc and, I send it aloft Your way is far more scientific But they usually fly okay I am looking forward to flying in the circuit with the Barnstormers at Greenacres should be very memorable, and a great tribute to Boddo Cheers Danny
Andy Green
I agree Danny, I think I may be trying to be too clever. Andy
Barnstormer 52
Posted by kc on 27/02/2014 17:37:05: Well I wondered if that's why you were looking into the incidence. You can cut an X in the covering and iron it down. The edges of the 1/16" sheet help when locating the wing and putting the bolts in. If you leave the 1/16" sheet, it does compress and you get saggy covering. Regards Geoff
Andy Green
Not been idle, nearly finished, but first a catch up. As I've mentioned before there will be no wires running to the wing, I'll be using the cabanes. and the wing will carry all the wiring. Typical connection detail - wires soldered onto the captive nuts with a strain relief to support the wire. Its all then sheeted and capping strips added. The capping strips were cut from a 3"sheet with a balsa stripper. Servo built into the wing, worked well on my Super 60. Andy Green
Nearly forgot the cabane strut pins. 1/8 dowel epoxied in place. Front top decking, built up and razor planed to shape. Andy
Andy Green
Split cabane strut split as these will carry the servo supply and signals. that 2 for the power and 2 for the servo signals Typical connection to get the servo signal to the cabanes. The ends will be terminated in a servo plug. Andy
Andy Green
Complete wing ready for covering. I have a unique scheme up my sleeeve. Details to follow. Things to do. Make the elevators Drill all hinges Cover Andy
Chris Bott - Moderator
Andy are you insulating those cabanes? If not then I have a concern about anything metal being dropped near that gap, maybe a screwdriver or allen key maybe?
Andy Green
I hear what you are saying Chris, one side will not be covered (part of the scheme) not sure about the other side. To be honest I'm not too concerned. I don't have any long reach allen keys, and it could only be an issue when turned on. Also the amount of bare metal wont be as bad is it looks in the pictures as the top section / cockpit will be there. That said a coat of finishing epoxy won't go a-mis Andy
Andy Green
Wings and tail surfaces are now covered, but ho photos until the fuselage is done. For fun I have added a flashing LED strip light. Andy

GrahamWh
Very interesting colour scheme Andy. I am thinking of building an Aircamper from the Traplet plans which is a similar looking craft and might have a go with some transparent colour film (again!). Very neat work. What colour will the leds be?
Andy Green
The LED's are multi coloured from Hobby King. Not tired them yet. Probably should have tested them before covering. Andy
Martian
Very nice Andy looks lovely and neat and is that an inspiration in the background for a new plane (THE PUSSY CAT )
Andy Green
Funny you should say that. I have a design for a small .25 powered model I designed to learn CAD, while playing one day Merlin (the cat a right miserable so and so) came in with a mouse, and started chomping his way through it. The model is called 'Merlins Mouse' Andy
