I think I was swayed by the "extremely robust" part. "Very economical" sounded good too. Hmmm...not forgetting the "easy" aspect........

Those attributes are generally high up on my list too when selecting what to build

Nice looking model thumbs up

The Phase-2 was the most copied model of the time, here's my own-design Aquarius from 1970 when I was 15, it was based heavily on a single photo of the Phase-2 and from memory of a meeting at Clwyd.
It used the Eppler 374 which was very popular at the time:

I may still have the 1970 Phase-2 photo somewhere, if I can find it I'll scan it.

Here's a question I ask myself after a build: knowing what you know now, would you have done anything differently?

For the Phase 2, the answer is yes.

Despite locating 4 x AA Nimh batteries and two full sized servos (rudder, elevator) as far forwards as possible, and despite building the back end as lightly as possible, I still found it necessary to add 3.6 ounces of lead in the nose to balance.

So, if I build another one I would commit sacrilege and lengthen the front fuselage by 2 inches, and modify former 1 to allow the battery pack to sit just a tad deeper into the nose.

I would suspect that Mr Foss also followed that train of logic; the Middle Phase and Phase 6 both look to have longer forward fuselages.

Anyway, there is nothing wrong with a bit of heft to a sloper (or the models wink)
