Ken Lighten
I think one of the early war half black half white underside would make a nice change http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/79/9/7/

Matt Halton
Been there, done that, IC,petrol,NEVER again, nothing sounds worse than those hideous 2 stroke engines, like those kids taking baffles out of the exhausts from their little scooters, big YUK!I'd never go IC again,I'd rather fly silently that listen to that racket! (sorry if that annoys anyone, personal preference)Only way I'd ever be tempted back to IC is with a 5 cyl. Moki radial, too expensive for me, electric rules...OK? Beautiful Hurri Tony,am looking forward to this one
Kelly
Sorry I've lost the plot what is being refered to as "tacky" ???
Tony Nijhuis
I think this was reference to a sound system!I have a 160watt merlin sound system in my EP 11' Lancaster and it sound fantastic 102db @ 1m....mind you the sound system on its own weighs 8lbIf anyones interested I'm going to be at Cosford this weekend with both my loud electric Lancaster and the new Hurricane which shall be on show in the SLEC tent so hope to see you thereCheers, Tony
Doug Ireland
Hi Kevin, sorry that was me. I was referring to the engine sound simulations that some people put in their electric powered models. Its just a personal thing but I still think they're tacky! George, over two pounds in weight just to drive a 13" prop for a few minutes! Bit OTT if my opinion is worth anything! Kelly
Hi Doug,I believe EP is the future for scale models, nice and clean, with an onboard sound system able to emulate real engines .I like both EP and IC but for scale EP is the way to go for me.I may build the Hurricane as a winter project, my first full build since the 1970's but cost may mean I go IC . Now that will make it nice and tacky.
Danny Fenton
Kelvin don't think electric is more expensive than IC. It is not always the case. See the thread on electrifying the seagull Sea Fury, I tried to do that as cheap as possible. People will tell you that the charge time is too long and you need multiple packs. Do a bit of research and take a look at A123 cells, they are safe, can be fast charged in the model, and you only need one pack. I fly the fury on 8 cells and recharge the pack in 10 and 20 minutes depending on how much I take out of them. Yes I could just refuel and go again if it was ic, but to me flying is about socialising and watching my friends fly too, so it works for me. I wouldn't be without ic though..... the lawn took ages to mow electric
Kelly
Hi danny,Yes great thread, I agree can be done cheap, may go that way.Cheerskelvin
Chris Bott - Moderator
Tony / George Have you tested the electric setup? In my experience with setups this size, I've needed a higher Kv than that (580) and a bigger prop to get 1KW on 5S lipo's (or 6S A123) More like 700Kv and a 14x7.It would be very interesting to know the actual measured figures ?I guess you have plenty of room to manoever. Probably don't need the KW and/or can go up in prop size.Great looking build, I'm not sure I'd want to cover it looks so nice in bare balsa
James Allum
looks good, could fly it around when the memorial flight is flying out of conninsgby, raise a few eyebrows

Andy Blackburn
> what colour scheme to do???? I've always thought that the desert schemes were most attractive but if you're not going to have a vokes filter, what about one of the Mk IIc night intruder schemes (dark green/medium sea grey topsides, black lower surfaces, code letters sometimes red e.g. LK-A, JX-E). Andrew Mann
Nice Model ! I will surely be adding this one to my building board. Oh by the way , my workshop looks exactly the same as Tonys. No Mess, No Progress !!!!!
Norrie Kerr
Very nice indeed, I have been planning the sea version for some time so I will definitely be building this one and adding the naval bits.

fly-navy
Going to have a look-see at Cosford tomorrow Ron will probably keep to same scale as Tony and see what I can add/do for Naval version(more OW visits )Have had the BT plan for years but never had the courage to do it ,don't know why as I am an ex engineer and was aircraft mechanician in RN fixing real phantoms,so hopefully this one will be a nice scale winter build leading up to greater things.John
fly-navy
OK Ron,talked me into it now seeing as you have so much confidence in meI am just covering the Peter Miller Tipsy Junior, first one from a plan after numerous kit and scratch builds enjoyed it very much so looking forward to Hurricane now.John
fly-navy
Went to Cosford todayweather wasn't very clever and limited a lot of flying, went to SLEC tent and although Hurricane wasn't there had a nice chat with Tony and he gave some pointers so "Bring it on",plan will probably come out when I am on holiday.John
fly-navy
Ron after 47 years of hard work in engineering I decided to take early retirement and having been diagnosed at that time with rheumatoid arthritis I thought enough was enough so enjoy our time while we can in case this ailment gets too viscious, but hey ho life is for living if only the bloody weather would let usJohn
Tony Nijhuis
Guys,GOOD NEWS...........The Hurricane has successfully flow this afternoon in its covered but unpainted state after working all last night to get it ready.... Glad to report it flew straight from the board with a few minor trim changes. A little bit twichy first flight in a 20knott wind but reduced the throws by 50% and all was well for the second. The power set-up suggested and supplied by 4-Max (George Worley) was absolutely spot on with oooodles of power.I have to say it's smoother than last years Typhoon but not a crisp as the previous years Spitfire...as per the real thing then!During the build of this model I made no attempt to keep the back end light and just built it as other might...I ended up putting 12oz of lead in the cowl and just achieved the Cof G position.....The AUW minus paint is shade under 8lbs.....so a good target weight is 8 to 8.5lbsHappy dayssss......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzTony
