David Holland 2
What a font of knowledge this forum is. Thanks for the enlightenment, fellas. I have to say that siamesing just one pair of cylinders on one bank is playing havok with my OCD!! That plastic kit bashing link was pretty impressive, cymaz, thanks and Geoff, apologies for doubting your research. David
Simon Chaddock
The five stack exhaust was a 'Mossie only' feature and even then there are variations. The reason was simply that the 6 stack would have fouled the wing root radiator so stack 6 was combined into stack 5.. For convenience, although not necessary, the same arrangement was used on the out board set, unless it was Australian built as they used a 6 stack outboard, On later marks the Merlins were further forward to accommodate the 2 stage supercharger which gave room for 6 stacks to be used inboard as well. This is a 1946 UK built version. **LINK** Then there were the covered "saxaphone" flame damper exhausts for night working.

Ian Jones
Love the merlin exhaust stacks and the dummy engines look very convincing. I've still got a spit to build that would look great with those - in a set of 6 of course.
