David Ashby - Moderator
Hi folks. 2020 marks RCM&E's 60th Anniversary (the May issue to be precise) and I thought it would be nice to mark the occasion with another fly-in at BMFA Buckminster. The date will be 12th & 13th September, roughly the same weekend as last year's enjoyable event. The format will be the same - off the peg flying for all model types (turbines to be advised nearer the time) although it would be nice to see some of the classic model designs that have appeared in the pages over the years. It's an opportunity for the Mini Jet Mass Builders to get together too. All the usual Buckminster facilities will be there, camping etc. so please call the centre to book. Camp Friday night from 5pm (please pre-book with BMFA) Relaxed off-the-peg flying all weekend (no slots or display teams). Food van. Flyers must have an A-certificate (min). Mass Build mini jet meet and fly. Usual Buckminster daily flying fee (£8). That's about it for now but mark your calendars and we'll see you there. Dad_flyer
Great! Outerzone says the Kakadu was a plan in May 1960, which makes it issue 1. Maybe I should build one.
Andrew Calcutt
Why the same weekend as goodwood revival!
Dad_flyer
This site has a small image of the Kakadu plan in that first issue. The English version seems not to have the complete formers of the German version on Outerzone, but it is certainly the same model.
Brian Cooper
Sounds like it will be good fun. I shall be there. B.C.
cymaz
It’s a shame the Greenacres/ RCME event stopped
David Ashby - Moderator
Posted by Andrew Calcutt on 27/01/2020 22:03:41: Why the same weekend as goodwood revival! Sadly, any date chosen would have clashed with something or other, finding a free weekend in Buckminster’s full schedule was the priority. Jesus Cardin
"Dad_flyer" thank you very much for the discovery and the info! It may be I also go for one. I think the occasion well deserves it!
Chris Bott - Moderator
I'm really looking forward to this, the 2019 event struck just the right note as a friendly fly in and the Buckminster site is excellent.
Alan H
The scary thing regarding 60 years of RCM&E for me is that I bought the first issue (which I still have), mind you I was a schoolboy at the time.
Jesus Cardin
Alan, see it just the other way: you have lived to see these full 60 years of RCM&E! And I wish you to see new issues for many years more.
David Ashby - Moderator
I'm very sorry to say that this year's event has been cancelled in the light of the ongoing Coronavirus situation. Fingers crossed, perhaps we can look forward to a fly-in next year.
Steve Nash 1
Oh no, thats my last hope of getting to a show dashed. Had four planned weekends away- LMA Cosford, Wings&Wheels, BMFA Nats and this RCM&E fly-in. All cancelled due to this damn virus. I want it to go away now. Cant we just delete the rest of 2020 and start again in 2021? 😕☹️

Danny Fenton
Oh what a shame, understandable, but a real shame, I thoroughly enjoyed myself last year
