A very half empty view ? If this is rolled out all over the UK then surely as licensed airspace users they would have to avoid our sites like we have to avoid areas near airports. I'm sure the BMFA will keep an eye on what's going on. There's probably a lot more of this going on already. than we realise or have noticed.

I just hope it's not going to be another scramble by a dire government to steal our frequencies. Remember when Thatcher stole 27 megs from us to give to the illegally operated 'citizen band' enthusiasts (whatever happened to that fad, I suppose mobiles took over).

She didnt "steal 27 megs from us", in fact by providing a legal band ABOVE our allocation the intention was to encourage illegal users to move out of 'our' section of the band into the new CB27/81 allocation.

See this also and thought here we go again. Remember using birds of prey to down drones? these drones are a worry of damaging jets, what about the birds then????

Then there was the autonomous delivery buggies being trialed, yeah right, they are not going to be vandelised or robbed are they for the goods.

More rubbish to waste money on doing studies.

Knife crime can not get sorted yet want to imprison yobs with offensive dogs. The list goes on.

Re: the earlier question "What happened to the CB fad?" The answer was that they legalised it, so all the idiots immediately lost interest! This definitely says something about human mass psychology which might say something attitudes to such things as face mask wearing, pot smoking etc! A forgotten side issue to that debacle was that, prior to then, we used to pay a nominal sum for a transmitting license in order to use 27 Meg until someone pointed out that, since we pay a license fee, we could reasonably expect the government to police the band and do something about the CB problem. Their response was to scrap the license fee!

'Keep Calm and Carry On' folks.

This story comes from my neck of the woods and I watched a brief TV report about it on local news a day or two ago. The same old thing as we've seen many times before. **LINK** Make your own mind up about the claims made for it in this setting.

Of course it makes sense in certain quarters to conduct trials as the technology is undoubtedly available, gains publicity for those involved and is a handy addition to a CV for the ambitious.

In my opinion, the reality and practicality will be somewhat different. I note the following from the article.

The project, which is being funded through a share of a £1.3m grant from the UK Space Agency and European Space Agency, will be based at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, Essex.

The drones will initially be flying between Broomfield Hospital, Basildon Hospital, Essex, and the Pathology First Laboratory, also in Basildon, Essex.

The flight path from Broomfield Hospital to the Pathology First Lab is 22km and takes just under 17 minutes.

The flight path from Basildon Hospital to Pathology First is 11.5km and takes just over nine minutes.

Hardly an impressive performance and comparable to what a decent motorbike courier could get at any time of day or night without a concern as to what the weather's doing, and at a fraction of the cost. I can guess that there are other factors that will cause those figures to be somewhat longer as well. Flying further only makes things worse because of limited range and changing weather conditions.

I'm not belittling the technology or holding a reactionary attitude; these clever devices do have a part to play in certain specialist circumstances, but having them to perform in areas where existing arrangements are equal to or maybe even superior should have the downsides pointed out.

By the way, I'm still waiting for the 'drone delivery road show' from Amazon and others to roll into town? That particular one I can't take seriously just because some billionaires are involved with it.
