Ron Gray
It was a note in the BMFA mag from @Andy Symons - BMFA to 'book' the 14th May for another attempt. Do we know if this is confirmed yet? That is the plan yes. We will be doing an In the Air Tonight session on the 2023 record attempt and the Around the World in 8 Hours charity distance challenge on Tuesday 17th January. kc
Perhaps the next record attempt should be different - perhaps RC models only. Without the paper chuck gliders that boosted the numbers last year.
kc
Why not have a Payload Challenge for club members? ( as suggested by David Ashby last year)

SIMON CRAGG
Anybody know what the outcome was? We are just putting our flying programme together, so it would be good to know if 14th May is a go!.

Andy Symons - BMFA
Still plenty of time to get your club signed up though. https://bmfa.org/2023-record There is also a new challenge we are trying this year which should be fun, see https://bmfa.org/2023-distance
Ron Gray
Is this year’s attempt the same as last year’s in that only BMFA members can be counted in the totals?

No, BMFA memebrs SAA members and guest flyers can all take part.

kc
So if my wife - not a flyer so not a BMFA member- throws my balsa free flight chuck glider which is very light well under 250 grams whilst I fly an RC model for the Mass Flight it would presumably count but what is the insurance situation? It is MY chuck glider but launched by a 'helper' -is it insured? Presumably we could increase the number of planes a lot if many people had a helper launch their chuck gliders too. Ron Gray
I would have thought that she would be a Guest and therefore covered?
Jake Bullit
Could you fly 2 or 3 at the same time ? Say a drone in hover ,a fixed wing in loiter and another flown manually?
Simon Chaddock
Three! Must not any UAV be in line of sight at all times? Of course the display people can get 100 plus computer controlled UAVs doing co ordinated manoeuvres but not quite in the spirit of what the BMFA is trying to achieve.
