RC Hotel Corfu ( flying heaven ....... or hell ) ?

I've heard about this flying heaven in the sun .... The RC Hotel in Corfu. There seems to be very mixed reports about it.

Not that I am planning on going any time soon but the reports are so varied that it would be good to get some first hand opinions.

Some reports suggest being farmed out to other hotels , suggesting over occupancy. Others .... quite a few suggest that your face has to fit and some of a rather rude and sometimes angry hotelier.

As I said .... no plans to go. I have to take the missus on a decent holiday which I would not ask her to put up with my hobby on her holiday ..... a bit selfish I think. However, a second holiday for say a week has been granted on several occasions so just trying to way up if it's even a consideration. If any of the negative reviews were even remotely true, I'd just knock the idea on the head.

To help balance the above a bit, there has also been copious positive reviews as well so ..... horses for courses maybe. Any further input would be welcome.

It has been many years since I went there but I had a great time.

I also took my young lad with me and he loved it too.

We had a great choice of aircraft to fly... and we flew most of them.

In the evening, there was a fabulous barbecue and a great party atmosphere.

Only drawback was it was too hot to fly during the midday hours.

Apart from the pandemic & a couple of years when I was working offshore I have been to the RCHotel at least once each year since it opened 23 years ago.

Frankly I don't recognise the criticisms mention by the OP. I'm sure a minority will not find it to their liking, but that is life. You can please some of the people.....etc.  In my experience Spiros goes out of his way to ensure that everyone has a good time and responds positively to any reasonable (& some unreasonable) criticisms & requests.

Their website http://rchotel.com/index.html give a pretty accurate description of what you can expect.

I was there last October & am going back again next month. Says it all really.

Certainly good testimony so far.

Like anything I suppose, maybe a few you just cant please. As I mentioned, I've no intention of going anytime in the hear future ( I have a fortnight in Cypeus this summer ) but my other half always encourages me to indulge in my own interests ( yes you heard right ) so it could be a week at some point later in the season flying solo so to speak.

The flying element would ge a reasonable part of it, but I work as hard as anyone ( if not more as I'm self employed ) so I like to chill, do zero and have a beer or two just people ...... or plane watching.

Might be an option going forward.

It's a punishing business, and Spiros has to put up with Brits on holiday (ugh*) so if they push him too far of course he snaps back!

Actually he's a great guy; the staff are ace; the grounds, facilities and accommodation are all great; the flying/fixing staff are top notch; Corfu town is lovely... Honestly, the entire hotel is well worth it.

*I've only been once. The first week was quiet and brilliant, the second week some noisy English families with their horrendous children appeared but it was still very good indeed. Go when it's still term time and you'll have a blast.

A lot of my club mates used to go to RC Hotel on a regular basis when they were younger and always spoke of it favourably. Personally, I never saw the attraction of flying oneself hundreds of miles to fly models when we had a decent site right on our doorstep at home.

Takes all sorts.

I seem to remember a flying holiday venue run by a Brit in the Austrian Alps years ago. Specialised in big scale gliders, unsurprisingly.

Just remembered, two of my buddies booked a model flying holiday in France probably 25 years ago IIRC. The adverts were all excellent and promised  top notch facilities.....................not so when they got there after a very long drive in a noisy van packed with gear and models - rough field, unbuilt accomodation and radio interference. Run by a Brit ex-pat.

I suppose the attraction is that your family can enjoy the sun, whilst the weather is far more likely to allow lots and lots of flying than the unreliable UK 'summer' where if you take a week off, you may get one or two days in.......

Having said that, it's not my cup pf tea either.
