RichardWalker
I have a brand new Eflite Apprentice STS and the rear stab is secured by very small self tapping screws. If I screw in a small amount the plastic in the foam channel is not secured, if I screw to max and put lots of force on, it's still not secured properly. I have removed the stab and screwed the screw in outside the model and it doesn't go in fully, I assume by design, by they are not particularly long. The only solution I can think is glueing the plastic on the rear stab down and the plastic in the channel. Any recommendations? It just seems that this is under engineered design and likely to fail. MattyB
I never like those self tapper secured tail surfaces. As long as it doesn't cause you any storage issues from not being able to pack it down, I'd just glue it on and be done with it.
RichardWalker
Thanks MattyB. I have tracked that the foam is EPO. It needs to attach the plastic to foam and of course in the channel. Do I use Foam Tac or do I need a different glue? I have just started in this hobby so don't have a glue kit or anything yet.
PeterF
Deluxe Materials sell a wide range of glues for many materials. Their charts and guides can be found at the link below. Useful reference for finding a glue to suit different plastics. https://deluxematerials.co.uk/collections/glue-charts
Andy Stephenson
If you're concerned about the glue attacking any of the plastic parts, I would recommend UHU Por. It's good for expanded polystyrene which is probably the most vulnerable material to solvents. https://www.balsacabin.co.uk/product/uhu-por/
Eric Robson
UHU for me, best used as a contact adhesive but make sure the pieces are in the right place when bringing together. It will work gluing and sticking straight away but takes a while to set
Engine Doctor
Deluxe materials Foam to foam is an excellent product and will stick foam of any type , plastic etc . Apply thin coat to both surfaces and assemble and leave for 24 hrs . Not instant but strong and reliable. As already pointed out only do this if you dont need to take apart for storage.
