Eric Robson
Day 2 pins removed from fuselage after leaving over night pva Gorilla wood glue used, I find this glue sands very well. Construction straight forward, no problems
Eric Robson
After sanding the fuselage top I cut the canopy and found the sides of the fuselage did not come high enough, no great problem to add some balsa from the offcut. Another point when assembling F2 onto the sides and crutch make sure it is vertical as if not it can alter the side length when pulling the sides together at the rear.
Eric Robson
Not done much today on the 190, nose skid fitted and shaped and cowl wrapping support stringers fitted, note wrapping not parallel. I had a spare Overlander 3548/05 900kv which adequately powered a heavier model, to get the prop in the right place I packed the motor mount 1/2" back from F1.

Eric Robson
Well they had different coloured rivets each day on Spitfires, Ron
Graham Bowers
Good progress. I've dry assembled the fuz and want to get it all worked out before applying glue. Can I ask, what did you use as a "stern post" between the two fuzelage sides please? A bit of scrap 8mm thick?
Eric Robson
Hi Graham, I used a piece of 1/8"×1/2" cut from the fuselage side offcut and tapered it to fit in. Also on a prior photo of the canopy fit at the rear I have marked the offcut as shown in the photo below where I am going to cut it to fill the gap.
Eric Robson
The added strip, held on with today's pins. I cut the canopy to the line it may be better to leave 6mm on to attach it to the side but I think it will still need some packing at the rear 1
Graham Bowers
Thanks for that Eric. I think I can't put off reaching for the glue for much longer 😉

Eric Robson
Ron, I need to get some different coloured glass head pins to avoid confusion. Your right two of the pins were today's.

Eric Robson
Just a little tip for those unfamiliar with foam wings, keep the foam they were cut from to support the wing whilst sanding.
Eric Robson
The canopy fit after adding the strips, just needs sanding
Eric Robson
Not mentioned in the instructions, what instructions? Where the upper fuselage side splays out at the front it leaves a gap and it felt a bit weak so I cut two pieces from the fuselage side offcut and glued them in for support. Using a David plane and a permagrit sanding block I managed to keep my fingers intact doing the wing tips.
Eric Robson
My servo mount cut out tool for foam wings. Use in a well ventilated area.
Ron Gray
My one is a similar shaped bit of wire fitted to a soldering gun.
GrumpyGnome
Don't know how I'll approach it - it is literally decades since I 'built' a foam wing.......
Eric Robson
Not a problem GG the wings are well cut with the dihedral angle ready set, the aileron cut out is straight forward I used a new Stanley knife blade. There's a template in the kit so no problem. Use a 30min epoxy for gluing up, only awkward part is the servo wells, I made up the tool from 2mm piano wire with a tailwheel collet for a depth guide.
Ron Gray
This is what I use for cutting out recesses in foam wings (these were some shots when using it on the WR LA-7).

More useful than mine for retracts.
Eric Robson
Servos installed, wiring routed in the best Oriental tradition, a slot and a strip of sellotape. The wing bandage is stuck on with pva ,less messy than epoxy and I have never had one fail. I cover it with masking tape before covering. Next job the wing fillets. For the new builders this is best done with the wing attached, protect the wing with plastic film to stop it being a one piece model. 4
Flying Squirrel
Looking good, thanks for adding the 'newbie tips' we are listening!
Eric Robson
Wing fillets, the triangle section in my kit was quite hard and after putting a lot of saw cuts at the front it was reluctant to form , cutting a long piece from the rear to the top the curve, this formed OK I then cut short pieces and glued them to the fuselage, when set I sanded and filled the with wood filler. Then a final sanding to shape, to get the concave shape I used a felt tip pen with 120 grit wrapped around. BE careful when sanding, if you are unsure mask the fuselage at the top of the fillets because it is easy to put a groove in the fuselage side. Stage one 2 and 3. Despite loading them in order they have appeared 231 Edited December 20, 2023 by Eric Robson
Eric Robson
At the tail end where the elevator slots in to fill the gap use a piece of the tailplane offcut after the tail plane is fitted DO NOT PUT IT IN BEFORE THE ELEVATOR JOINER WIRE. at this point it is not glued as I have to cover the elevator.
