As Chris pointed out, the Laser docs for cam timing exclude the 180. Not sure how old his is but when I’m back home at the end of the week I can take the back plate off mine and take a photo of it.

That's where Ron's link send you to - snap, but it excludes 180's

 

So the question is....is it a pre 82 engine or not?

Ron, Be careful taking off the back plate, there's an evens chance a cam could release still attached to it.

Safest to remove the backplate before the top end although ensure both valves are closed to take the load off the cams. That way, unlike in the picture, where I assume the followers have been pushed up for clarity, the cam followers will positively retain the cams.

Yep, been there! Always slowly lift the plate off with an old thin bladed knife to push the gubbins back as you do.
