A VCL (Vapour control layer) works a bit like Gortex and whilst excellent they tend to be quite expensive. A taped polythene sheet would be a very good vapour barrier especially when combined with OSB and although it isn't breathable in this shed scenario it would be fine. Irrespective of an intelligent VCL or a poly vapour barrier special care is needed when forming openings and attaching fixings, a right pain in the butt but necessary.

Polythene sheet has its place but water collection can be a problem.

Insulation/ventilation is a multibillion pound industry constantly bringing out products to fix its self made problems.

Agreed but it also depends where you locate it plus that is where the OSB helps.

In total agreement with that. Incorrectly placed insulation and preventing buildings from 'breathing' to name but 2 problems created by that industry.

The breather barrier between thec, adding andthe3 x2 framing comes factory app, iedso no options there.

The celutexthat I intend to fit totheinsideof the frame has a foil backing I'm assuming toreflect heat backing.

The roof and floor foiling, action sheet co espre-installed alsoso no changing that.

The main things that I can change is the 25mm thick celutex wall insulation and the internal lining board which at the moment will be either 9mm or 12mm Ply.

I'm not a fan of OSB. I chop and change my sheds interior layout from time to time to suit an ever changing purpose. The ply takes more abuse than OSB which can lose its structure easier than Ply. ...... just my opinion of course.

I believe that OSB equivalent is significantly cheaper than ply but whilst I'm no millionaire, price is not the main driver. The shed structure itself is costing a small fortune so I don't want todo the interior on the cheap just for the sake of a few quid more. I made that mistake with my current hobby shed by going for a cheaper quote built by a clown ....... I'm not going down that road again ...... this has to last as its the last chance I will get to spend a significant budget on an item like this. Call it pre- retirement planning. This has to last 20 odd years ..... if I have that left in me.

Small shed came down this morning ..... getting there.

Next job is to pack as much of the contents of my current workshop away ready to bring down my big shed ....... that should be done before I go on holiday.

Things are gathering pace now.

Today's progress ......

crooked photo's as usual .... cant seem to get this correct on my pad. ..... anyway .... No 1 son tidying up .....

The new fence in the action now ..... last 6 slats being delivered on Monday and will be fitted Monday evening.

It maybe in a sorry state now but that old shed has been a good buy and has served well for the best part of 25 years.

Just formally secured the order for the new shed today by paying the deposit. Due for delivery on Thursday 31 October so I get my holiday over with returning on the 14th October .... then 2 weeks to empty, isolate el3ctrical supply, dismantle and dispose of the big shed and build my new sub-base prior to the new shed arriving ...... see ..... there is actually a plan.

That's all for now....

Delighted to say that a trip to the tip seen. Numerous environmental nasties disposed of today.

1 x damaged Lipo battery, 8 x ( full and corroding ) single use camping gas canisters. Various tins of left over paints and other redundant materials.

So ..... the little shed now gone and concentrating on the contents of the larger shed. Some plastic storage containers from B and Q shall house many of the " keepers " that will be rehoused once the new shed arrives and is built and lined out.

Things are on programme with the timber for my new sheds sub-base arriving tomorrow along with some 100mm DPC to protect it from the elements. The remaining slats ( x6 ) arrive to finish off my rear fence then it's out with the preservative which will be applied at some point this week.

I'm hoping to accelerate the demolishing of the big shed to before I go on holiday to get me ahead of the game a bit. It just means turning the house into a bit of a tip with storage boxes a bit earlier than first thought. ..... all this ..... and with SWMBO's blessing ..... seams to good to be true. ..... this will cost me further down the line ...... I'm convinced of that.

More as it happens.

Timber arrived bang on que for the sub-base and remainder of the slats.

So .... tonight it's finish off the fence and start with the preservative application ... back fence first. I'll see how far I get as I have parts of the existing fence I need to cover as well as the new areas at the front and back.

If I can get these done over the next couple of nights ..... then it's on to making up two sub frames 9 x 14 feet each and tacking the DPM to it's underside. ...... then it's boxing up the contents of the bigger shed for temporary storage to let me demolish and dispose of it. Also isolate the electrical supply.

Thennnnnnnnnn it's position the sub - base, level it up and wait until the 31st October for the new mancave to arrive..

Apart from that ...... nothing else to do ..... oh .... apart from 12 nights in Zante of course ..... just rewards for all our hard efforts.

I'd love to but there isn't a huge representation 8n my neck of the woods.

I think the usual trying to organise the few that could maybe could make it on the same day would be impossible. A decent BBQ would be a more than acceptable price to pay .... and as you say ..... a great day. ....commeraudery .... would be a bit of a hoot.

However, I'm sorted. I have my son who can fetch and carry and lift. My missus who is happy to muck in and my mate who I served my time with as a spark who is generally good with tools etc ...... what could possibly go wrong .... :classic_laugh:. When it comes to a project of a decent size ...... I like to be in overall control.

There is a well laid plan and I am confident it will come off. ..... it will have too.

Forgot to mention ..... tonight's target achieved.

Finished the extra slats on the rear fence ( x 6 ) and the whole of the new rear fence coated in preservative both sides. Tomorrow night it's onto the front. Weather pending. If weather isn't playing ball, then it's packing duties in the big shed ...... either way ..... I'll be busy.

Another successful night ..... weather holding out well so the front fence ( new one ) received its first coat of preservative .... both sides. I have an existing fence at the front between meand my other charming neighbours ( who haven't lifted a finger to assist in 24 years ) which is tomorrow nights task.

I have a other stretch of existing fence which runs in between me and the same neighbour which will probably be for Thursday night which will lead in nicely to the weekend which ( weather pending ) will see me start my two 9 x 14 sub bases to sit the new shed on.

Never a dull moment ..... all this and a fitted kitchen ( for mumsie  ) to project manage before Christmas...... so ...... flying is most definitely out for the foreseeable future. ..... I must have been a real bar steward in my previous life.....

Absolute madness,

I had no idea just how much I have accumulated over the years. God knows where some of this stuff is going to be stored when the time comes ( very soon ) for the big shed to come down.

I am hiving stuff away everywhere and have hardly made a dent in it. I thought I had got rid of most of my surplus railway stuff just leaving me with the elements that I will still actually model ..... no chance. It's still literally coming out of the woodwork. I have a worthy donor who is coming down tomorrow to take it away for use at his local club so I'm happy with that.

I've actually started dismantling the shed from the inside so far including stripping out the electrics to a bare minimum just leaving me enough power and lighting to finish off the job prior to finally taking it down.

Maybe a photo or two of the chaos tomorrow.

Meanwhile ..... preparing for the first of many trips to the tip tomorrow.

Cheers

More tip trips done today ...... today was very much a plastic day. Old multi drawer container u it's which were past their best. Some older power tools whichI have since Noah was a boy have now been donated to my sons work mates.

Several trips to mumsies to temporarily store multiple plastic ( B and Q ) stackable storage boxes full of RC parts ... Engines, motors, servos, props and all sorts of other goodies.

Of course ..... all these will need to be retieved again when the new shed goes up and I get the inside fitted out again.

I have not quite planned the inside yet. I want to see the physical dimensions before I go making the best use of it but I would like a bit of workable worktop areas to be able to use my various proxxon bench tools etc for some of my other modelling projects. .....l let's wait and see. That's a couple of weeks .... and a holiday in Zante  away yet.

Right now ..... a small beer break whilst I await my mate to appear and relieve me of another car load.

Cheers for now

Things going well.

Big shed nearly cleared and almost ready for disconnection of power to bring the shed down.

All going well this will be over by Saturday..... ground cleared, shed disposed of and starting the new shed sub-base ahead of planned. The sub base wasn't meant to happen until my return from holiday and one week ahead of the new shed delivery.

So good progress has been made and will be able to go on holiday a week on Monday a contented man.

Things can work so much better when you are not quite so reliant on others.

Thanks Ron.

Don't know how to correct it. It's not laziness as I hate squint photos as well. .... apologies.

Tonight .... the power went off as planned and I started stripping out the inside panelling and insulation. Good job done. Was going to post a photo or two but they would be squint so didn't bother. Potentially risking the wrath of Rah.

Tomorrow .....more insulation to rip out then the floor starts coming up and the roof comes down.

That should leave the main walls for Saturday. ..... all going according to plan so far.

I've never worked so physically hard for a long time. .... the downside of being a QS as opposed to being on the tools. Never mind.

So here is to tomorrow and more of the same.

Edit the photo on your pad or 'phone, rotate the photo and to make doubly sure just auto adjust it then save it or Done (iPad, iPhone). The photo will then appear the same as on your pad or 'phone.

The shed is down ......... sort of.

Not the way planned as the roof gave me issues. I could not remove the Felt as it had been blown on. Absolute nightmare as I could have simply uncrewed the the boards from above.

So .... I had to take two walls out and collapse the roof. Elf and safety would not have been impressed....... Real roughneck stuff.

I have taken photos but need to transfer from camera to computer as I still can't get the photos right on my pad. No matter what I try.

I still have a least a shift tomorrow to complete this stage of getting it completely felled, cut up and packed into a van for disposal.

Early start tomorrow then.

I'll give it another wirral Ron. I'm fine with my laptop but that's packed away for the moment with all that's going on. It's just an old one that I use for the shed. Albeit I will need to replace it asone artwork ofthekeysare  ow starting toplay up. However .... that's for later.

Good progress made today .... the shed is totally down and about 80%  disposed of. I have the floor to take apart but that should not take me long tomorrow.

Couple of trips to the tip in order to get rid of the insulation and a few builders bags of general wood cuttings and crap.

That will leave me with the two sub-bases to build for the new shed. All going to plan for now.

I built a garden workshop earlier this summer and had similar questions about construction which felt quite daunting. Ended up building it all myself and really enjoyed the experience.

Base, concrete base, DPM and then a 4x2 frame laud flat, 50mm celutex foam inlaid and 18mm ply floor with the DPM wrapped round

Walls, 4x2 frames, 50mm insulation, 12mm ply on outside, wrapped in membrane, then 1” battens and clad in shiplap, inside 9mm ply lining

Roof, 4x2 rafters, 50mm insulation, 18mm ply roof coating in bitumen paint and good roofing felt, 9mm ply lining on internal ceiling.

Purchased 2 wooden kit windows and a B&Q door and frame.

Probably overbuilt but everyone has been very complementary and it hasnt leaked yet.
