Zflyer
No thats not a computer game. Query for the all knowing forum. I have a blackhorse Tucano. The tank outlet is slightly higher than the inverted motor carb and hence has the tendency to syphon. I can find no way of fitting the tank to lower it, I could, which would destroy the look, not to mention the cowl ,set the motor upright but am not keen to do this. I was considering an underbelly fuel tank any thoughts!
Chris Walby
What engine are you using and a couple of photos would be good?
Zflyer
I will get some pics when I can. It's a four stroke but I cannot remember the full details. (Too many planes)
Engine Doctor
If its a OS or clone ASP etc then extending the inlet tube is not that diffucult. It brings the carb to whatever higher level you require so preventing any draining or siphoning issues. I have some sketch/diagrams on my pc and have posted them on here before some years ago, if interested ill get them on here again. I found it in a mag some years ago and modified an OS 48 Surpass for an inverted instalation. It worked brilliantly giving far better idling and pick up. Downside was a loss of about 100 to 150 rpm at WOT . Basic metal working skill and a lathe to make the ext tube is needed but there is usually somebody in a club who can help with the lathe/ turning part. I think it was Jeffwings on here that recently did a similar conversion on a Laser engine that are known for this problem in inverted instalations. Have a look through older posts on here .
PatMc
Why is it a problem ? Is it because the fuel drains out between flights ?
Paul De Tourtoulon
I had the same problem with my Laser .90, I put an OS admission pipe and extension on it.
Chris Walby
For fuel to get out, air must be getting in. If its a non pressurised vent the plug it with "Remove before flight tag) so you don't forget or if its exhaust pressurised the pull the vet off the exhaust and tag the same. IMO the fuel lines are not large enough ID to allow fuel in one direction and air in the other.
