400mm Volantex and Spektrum

Recommended Posts

After my question in another thread about binding Spektrum to the p51 I'd just bought,

the general consensus was it couldn't be done,  and looking at the airframe I couldn't even see the receiver

So I went to the local school field to fly it with the supplied transmitter.

I thought the gyro settings hindered the control too much making smooth control difficult and expert was not pleasurable either. So I adjusted the elevator throw via the horn and tried again, this was better, but only had one battery so went home to research further.

Internet also seemed pretty sure it couldn't be done, but I eventually found the receiver was hidden by a hatch so investigated further, revealing a connector just right for a satellite receiver. Unfortunately no joy trying to bind, so more research and found a video saying to bind the sat to a normal receiver and transmitter first then connect sat to plane receiver.

Tried this and as if by magic it's now bound to my DX9 great!

Unfortunately I can't get the stabilizer on a switch at the moment. As the plan was to fly on expert with expo etc helping, a bit more research requied, any ideas?

Learner - didn't you say that your P-51 was a Skynetic model, rather than Volantex?

No it's volantex, the only thing I could find about Spektrum binding on the internet originally was about skynetic and wondered if they were the same.

So you're essentially connecting a Spektrum transmitter to a Spektrum receiver by fitting a second receiver to the model.

A satellite receiver yes, same as I do with my trex 150.

The difference being you have to bind the sat with a normal spektrum receiver first (then attach the sat only) to the main board in the p51.

Yes, I understand that and have done that with an OMP model I have.

But I'm not sure it is practical with the Volantex P51 400mm ?

The Rx board is not accessible without using a scalpel and possibly not the space for the extra board ?

Plus I don't know if there is a connection on the planes Rx for a satellite receiver ?

It is possible to remove the original board and swap it for a DSMX which then, of course, will bind to spectrum.

Such as:-

P.S. the Eachine is the same as the Volantex.

Excellent tip there , I have couple of eachines obtained cheap as returns with faulty gubbins , tried to get one good one out of them but failed, took a note of the AS3X boards to convert to Spectrum and brushless    as above so all  I have to do is source via  internet

I did make a windvane out of one of the  planes so will retrieve  it from top of the pole !

no scalpel required just pull part shown away from fus.

Then you can see the board and plug sat receiver in.

There's not much space but it can be done.

A smaller sat than shown is needed ideally.
