  1. So with winter here again, did everyone's diesel heater fire up ok after a long rest?
  2. This is what was suggested earlier (maybe I'm on Simons ignore list), though I meant the pulse width rather than the frequency. It is possible that an older ESC might not approve of a 91Hz rate (11ms) but I would have thought frequency intolerance (within the typical range) would be very unlikely in a modern unit 😊
  3. For the sake of longevity I wouldnt run a 1000hp ESC at more than 800hp though... 🤣😂😅
  4. No it doesnt Arthur 🙂 The only connection it has is a unidirectional PWM signal from the receiver to the ESC. The Wangcl is conventional in every way. Well, other than its exceptional 1000 hp rating 🤣😂😅 I suspect your 'wrong' memory simply has different throttle end-points to those the ESC has been trained to, and the ESC is quite correctly warning you of this 🙂
  5. Anything they make glue bottles out of is generally not good to glue to 😁
  6. I carefully plane along the LE, then when its getting close, use a coarse permagrit block and sand along the rib, and round the LE across the grain, to get the profile - then very carefully tidy up lengthwise. You will break some, we all do! 🙂
  7. Its normal practise to allow at least half again (like 150%) of the stated rating when choosing an ESC. Double the rating is fine, just a little more of a safety margin, it will run nice & cool 🙂 Also the 60A will probably have a more substantial BEC which is always a good thing.
  8. Yes but there’s always room for one more...
  9. This would make a great RCM&E plan John! Kevin? 🙂
  10. Mine all come from my daughter-in-law, in worrying quantities but at least its not tobacco. And at least I know where they've been 🙂 I've given buckets of them away at the Ponty club but I've still a stash of fifty or so and yesterday she presented me with another carrier bag full, some with charge ports. Most of my PP3-powered test gear now has a 2S home-made PP3, used them in loads of projects, bicycle light pack etc - but theres a limit to how many you can use so I still have mountains of the things. The recent ones are nice little 300mA oblong lipos ideal for a Lidl glider or mpx Fox. The 18650-sized ones you can adapt to use in a torch. My SAS Wildthing has ex-Vape 18650s in the nose, two in parallel for the weight. You cant post lipo cells now but I could take some to the next big meeting - OW? anything but throwing them away! Cheers Phil
  11. its just me being daft John - for ages I signed posts "Cheers Phil" ...and one day I thought, I wonder if anyone reads that bit? So occasionally I put: "Cheese Pies" instead - you're the first to notice 🙂
  12. 80 miles to Buckminster from here and I go as often as I can, it's a superb venue and a tribute to those who put in all the effort. Yes it might be a trek, but the camp site is great, I usually stay 2 or 3 days - roll out of bed & fly... Ask your golfing pals what they think of a £47 membership fee 🙂 We're all having to make economies, surely there's something other than your hobby where you can save your £12? Cheese Pies
  13. I was only reminiscing yesterday, that back in the day™, at least in our cub (SSA) almost all models were own-designs. There were a few plan builds, but it was unusual to see a kit build, and of course no artfs, foamies or composites. Maybe with no net, no PDFs, no computer to print PDFs, no outerzone and the cost of kits vs sheet balsa.... All very 'aeromodelling' oriented rather than 'R/C model flying'. I dont really know what my point is 🙂 but Simons post coincided with my ponderings 🙂
  14. Sorry its me causing confusion, High Barn is sorted 🙂 so looking at BH I thought 'Rag Robin Turn' was the lane that leads from Kepwick to Black Hambleton (?) marked 'unsuitable for motors', is this the one you said 'if you can find the gated road (red line)' ?
  15. I found 'Rag Robin Turn' too, says 'unsuitable for motors'? I like a challenge... 🙂
  16. Thats very helpful JR ta v much. Unlikely to make it up there till next season but will defo give you a shout 🙂 High Barn sounds the favourite, is there a landmark to look out for after the ten-minute walk, or is the launch spot obvious? You might be amused by my Single-Channel & Reeds soarers 😁
  17. Jealous? me? pfft. 😁 now thats a proper retirement! 🙂
  18. Beautiful, and great filming but jeez you make me nervous JR.... 🙂 🙂 🙂 Coupling the pilots head to the rudder would be cool for those canopy angles... 🙂 Brilliant, hope to try Sutton Bank next season! (I'm a NYMRSA member) Phil
  19. That looks really nice John, much purdier than a Can Doo! 🙂 Does it have a reasonable glide? thinking slope...
  20. Beaut. Soren will love that! 🙂
  21. Almost forgot! cox, fleet, film, king, bus, cloud, pin, hour, top, smoke
  22. Thanks Nick, this has been a fun topic when theres not much flying 😁
  23. Heres an easy two-minute between-rounds thing, middle word? brian --- 049 digi ----- air arm solar ---- star hobby ---- charles air --- stop lenticular ----- nine gudgeon --- point amp ---- glass spinning --- gun magic ----- signals
