  1. Should that not be the downward going aileron? That's the one that causes adverse yaw, generating extra drag on the outer wing in a curve.....
  2. This is what I learned from Mike Shellim on that subject over the past few days: https://rc-soar.com/opentx/basics/index.htm (about 2/3 down)
  3. Hi Christopher, By chance I have been investigating this system too, for a model train enthusiast here in the Netherlands. The "Selecta" knob is comparable with switching model memories in a regular RC transmitter. This means, as Dick has just mentioned, you need special receivers that will continue the last received channel information indefinitely. A normal Spectrum receiver would defer to the fail safe settings in such case, meaning that the relay will default to on or off, depending on the fail safe settings you have programmed for that channel. ( I also read about the manufacturer of that system having stopped production of certain types of equipment) Max.
  4. Nacelle structure of my Bobcat project (never completed, at least not in the last 25 years ?) Maybe it gives you an idea.....

  7. On the downside: you have no directional control on the glide, because you need the thrust from the prop to steer. This is how I know :

  10. Posted by FlyinFlynn on 02/12/2020 12:16:59: every now and then I believe the power company decide to transmit data over the grid and it produces a very noticeable flicker which fluorescent and incandescent bulbs do not suffer from. Sounds familiar Flynn. I have a light in the living room with three dimmable LED lamps (230V screw in type), connected to a remote controlled dimmer. It flickers every now and then, almost always a at few minutes before the half-hour. Like you, I believe this has to do with data sent over the grid, possibly checking the "smart" electricity meter, or changing the tariff, but I have not done a full investigation into the phenomenon. Max.
  11. Posted by Nigel R on 01/12/2020 10:31:16: max, would that not be true if they rotated the same direction? Well, I would expect some effect of the rear prop having to battle the swirl of the front prop, but the net transit airspeed generated by the front prop would definitely reduce the effective pitch of the rear one. How the power balance works out, only Simon can tell I guess, but it would surprise me if the rear prop consumes 2/3 of the total.
  12. Posted by Simon Chaddock on 01/12/2020 00:24:21: In the first constant diameter equal prop version it was more a trial to achieve a bench mark. The current consumption was about 1/3 to 2/3 front and back. ?? I would expect exactly the opposite, with the rear motor running in already accelerated airflow?
  13. Hi Dave, I am following your efforts with interest. A while ago I have been dabbling with monochrome displays, and at some point came across THIS useful internet tool to convert pixel pictures into a matrix of hex codes that could be used directly with the drawBitmap command (U8glib library). Maybe it is also useful with the colored images you are creating? Keep up the good work, cheers, Max.

  15. David, I would like to see a search possibility on unread posts, but with a clear distinction between threads with unread posts since my last visit and other unread posts. Thanks, Max.
  16. Google Kline-Fogleman airfoils, plenty of examples around. Check this (German) site for examples.
  17. I am a member of a club which is widespread over the country (Netherlands), and even beyond (Belgium and Germany). We held our last AGM's with MS Excel (cloud version). All the necessary documents (MoM of last AGM, agenda and financials) were published beforehand in a group private discussion on the Dutch forum. It is a matter of preparation in such manner that all the items are already in the Excel workbook, and setting a time where everybody should attend. The online discussion was held with the Excel chatbox. I must admit that the % of attendees was not great, but the principle worked. Cheers, Max. Edited By Max Z on 09/10/2020 11:21:16
  18. The Arup....yes I did consider that a couple of times. I did build a scale model of the Grumman V-172 "Flying Pancake" many years ago, twin electric drives and all, but it would not fly (except for one very tight looping, straight from the launch ). I am wondering about those snakes driving the ailerons, it seems to me that those 180 degree half-loops will give you a lot of play in the movement of the control surfaces. Can't you install the servo's close to them with a more or less straight linkage? Plenty of powerful yet light servo's around these days. Keep at it, I like it. Max. 19. Posted by Barrie Lever on 24/09/2020 18:40:52: Multiplex Royal 16, over your budget but not by a mile, you will not regret it. Never ever had anything other than 100% control on 2.4Ghz +1 !
  20. I did initially learn how to program in Arduino from the Arduino website. Most if not all of the information is there, but I have to say navigating to the core tutorial(s) is a bit hard. Probably the best way to start is to upload the ubiquitous "Blink"-sketch and start HERE to learn how it functions. You can then work your way up with the Reference Page to learn about all other functions, variables and structures. But the main ingredient is and will always be perseverance. You have to enjoy creating stuff in Arduino, do not see it just as a quick way to create a custom piece of electronics to suit your immediate need. And you have to do it often to stay in form, but even then you have to refer to quite basic things now and then (I know I do). In that respect it is the same as designing stuff in 3D cad (one of my other hobbies). I never felt the need to learn any C-language, my only background is a bit of Basic in the distant past (for my MSX computer). But you have to have a mind for structuring a program, with all the (nested) decision and looping functions. It is not impossible to create that structure in Arduino from scratch, but it often helps to work out the process in a block diagram. I have to add that I am in no way an expert, my creative work in arduino is pretty basic. And I often use other people's creations to learn from and customize it to suit my preferences. HERE is a nice forum, with an arduino-oriënted section that I visit frequently. A lot of these projects are way over my head in complexity, but there are some that I copied and customized successfully. Max. Edited By Max Z on 26/07/2020 10:36:32

  22. Hi Pete, I am using the Silhouette Cameo 3 for a year or two now, and I am very pleased with it. It always amazes me how it cuts very smal lettering and items with great accuracy (7- 8 mm high lettering). Contrary to Martin, I did not see the need to go for the premium software. As long as you have a decent 2D cad application that can export .dxf files, you are good to go, I never do any graphics directly in Silhouette Studio, except rearranging and adding an extra cut line. Nor did I go for the roller attachment, I just leave the roll of vinyl on the table in front of the cutter to unroll itself, no problems. The Studio software works fine on my Mac, but is a bit slow in picking menu items and tool icons. Once you have saved a design, it will remember the cutting settings. What annoys me a bit is that for every new design you have to change the default material into the actual, I would have liked if it remembered the last used material. Cheers, Max.
  23. Hi Shaun, This is what I wrote in my original construction article: I’m happy flying my Wiggo with a 9x6 prop on a 1000Kv brushless outrunner. The ensemble pulls about 25 amps static using a 2200mAh 3S Li-Po battery, so aim for about 300 watts of power and an ESC to match. Your motor-esc combo seems to fit that bill just fine, go for a 8x6 or 9x6 prop. Enjoy your build, Max.
