  1. Welcome to the forum Ambrose. It is possible to use a different motor but unfortunately I think you will need to do a bit of fettling. I replaced mine with an Axi 2820/10 & 60 amp speed controller to make a 'Super Disco' but I expect that is OTT for what you want. I don't know of a direct bolt in replacement, the motor fitted appears to be bespoke. This or this motor look reasonable replacements as should other similar motors with a kv rating of about 900 that will take a 3S battery, there is plenty of space to take a physically larger motor and you can adjust the ballast weights that are in the bottom of the cowl to keep the correct centre of gravity. However the retaining bolt spacings will almost certainly be different so you will have to drill new holes to fit, in my case I needed to fabricate a new doubler from a sheet steel plate to get things to match up. You may also have to reverse the shaft on the motor so that the correct part spins. If that is the case you can do a search 'reverse shaft on brushless motor' where you can find a number of YouTube tutorials. Finally you say you have repaired the fuselage with epoxy. Be careful there. Whilst you may get a superficially sound joint you commonly find that it will fail as the structure flexes. I would recommend UHU Por or cyno ('Superglue' & kicker. You do not need the 'foam safe' cyno on the Discovery's EPO structure, ordinary cyno works better. Some have also had success with Gorilla glue but I'm not a fan of it.   2. I've not tried the silver, but other colours in the RC Styro Colours range are excellent on EPO, as the red on my TwinStar testifies. They are acrylic (water) based and as the name suggests specifically formulated for this purpose.

  4. Pete I use one of these locking switches for throttle hold on my Jeti coupled with a voice warning. If a similar accessory available for your radio I'd highly recommend it, for belt, braces & a piece of string!
  5. Ken, more correctly the Curve number reflects the switch position. The switch that has been allocated to change the Dual rate &/or Expo is also shown on the screen. Before setting up D/R Expo by default the screen will show Switch:On as the bottom line. When you allocate a switch it will change, for example, to Switch: Switch B or Switch: Flight Mode etc. Then below that a series of blocks will appear numbered 0,1,2 (for a 3 position switch) or 0,1 (for a 2 position switch). The block that is filled in will reflect the switch position that is printed on your transmitter alongside the switch. This, and the Curve number, will change as you toggle the switch. Ken Ken, you will find that Curve in this instance is not an option or feature - it's a numbering system. You will find that you cannot scroll down to that line in the Dual Rate & Expo screen & change it. The line on the graph to the left of the screen is the Curve, by default it is numbered 1. If you set up a new Dual Rates &/or Expo the line on the graph will change & it will be given a new Curve number. When you toggle the switch allocated to D/R Expo you will see the Curve Number (0,1,2 depending on the switch set-up) & graph change. Hope that helps.   7. You should not need a lead. Page 21 of the DX6e manual "Wireless Trainer works just like the Wired Trainer, without the wire. Select Wireless Trainer to bind a DSM2® or DSMX® slave transmitter to the master transmitter...." Whilst the DX6e Tx will not transmit on DSM2 it looks like the receiver that is inside it which receives the buddy box signals can operate on DSM2, like other Spektrum receivers. Whilst I've not tries the specific setup you are proposing I've certainly bound DSM2 only Txs to my DX9. Edited By John Lee on 05/04/2019 15:18:12

  9. Glad you got the radio sorted Geoff. The manufacturer of the Grace was RCM Pelikán in the Czech Republic. I think it may be worth starting a new thread in the Gliding section with the model name in the title, as this thread is indexed under 'Spektrum' many glider guiders will pass it by.
  10. Geoff I have a decades old Chippahawk airframe which is 90% the same as the Hawk 70. I stripped everything from it when I went all electric a few years ago. You are welcome to it if you want it, you could re-equip & fly as is, refurbish or just use it to take measurements. I'm going to the North West Area Club Examiner Meeting in Accrington tomorrow & can past over if you can get down to meet me during one of the breaks.
  11. We have a good relationship with our local Police Helicopter & they occasionally use our strip to practice night landings in a 'dark hole' environment.
  12. Geoff try this on a new fresh model memory: Select Model type Glider. Then look at the Monitor screen. Move the throttle stick & I think you will find that it operates Aux2 output. As you have allocated Aux2 to the left lever in your model setup that overrides the throttle stick which is left with nothing to do, hence no flaps. I think you will need to go back & allocate the left lever to Aux 3, 4 or 5 & use that as the motor control, freeing up Aux 2 for the throttle stick/flaps. I don't think you can just reallocate the throttle stick on the JR DSX software. Hope that helps, it's from memory as I no longer have my DSX9 so apologies if I've got it wrong.   14. Geoff I also struggled to get a satisfactory setup with a DSX9, like Gary I also tried with a DSX12 but in the end admitted defeat & moved to Jeti. That said I did find it much easier with a Spektrum DX9 than the JR DSX9, software rapidly developed soon after JR's DSM2 radios came to market. However I was more or less able to get a limited glider setup working on the DSX9 with the help of the DVD 'Radio Clinic for Sailplanes' produced around 2008 for the JR XP9303 which has the same programming as the DSX9. If you PM me your address I'll send you the DVD with my compliments, its 1hour 50mins may well help clarify some of the many quirks in the software.
  15. The standard HS81 gear train is very weak, any knock will strip them. If the servos are otherwise OK you can get replacement sets for about £2 or change them for a metal gear set eg here
  16. I've been pleased with my ISDT D2 dual charger for the last 12 months or so, trouble free after 355 charging cycles. About £110 from UK outlets.

This process adds Lithium salts to the water, and the disposal of this through our normal drainage systems is likely to affect the work of our Water Authorities, who use Lithium as a trace element when locating leaks. At the time of writing, the best available disposal procedure is via the local authority Environment and Waste department...... Steve I'd suggest that you have a proper read of the booklet available here.

  20. Chris You may want to download the manual here for the Dx9. On page 29 there are the instructions for the sequencer that are missing from the Dx8e manual.
  21. A bit late to the party but I've electrified the WOT 4 Pro. The worst part was cutting a top hatch - measure 4 times cut once and then fit magnet closures. The model was intended as a winter hack so I specifically wanted a top hatch rather than having to invert the model in the mud to change the batteries. Mine's fitted with an AXI 2826/10, 10x8 prop, 60A ESC & 4S 2700 batteries. The battery carrier is the option one from the GP/EP version which fitted directly. CG came out spot on with no ballast (I don't know which version you flew Dennis but mine has built up tail surfaces, as does even Pro I've seen). AUW RTF is 1.88kg (about 4.1lbs) & power output is just over 700 watts. And it flies like a WOT 4. I've had just about every variant of the standard size since it was first produced & this is up there with the best of them. Recommended.
  22. The plug is a standard 2S JST-XH balance lead plug. Obtainable from EBay & most specialist electric flight retailers. If you don't want to mess about replacing wires a direct replacement battery that I use following leaving my original connected for weeks by accident is here for less than £4.
  23. Yes, mistakes can be made and no doubt there are errors in some of the reports. However all the reports are scrutinised by the UK Airprox board (linked above) which is comprised of 14 experienced practitioners plus a number of expert advisors and undergo a rigorous causal analysis & risk assessment before the results are published. I'm inclined to take their output seriously.
