  1. I'm sure you know the point I was making. Scroll back and read some of the posts.
  2. All the doubters with their heads in the sand should ring up Gatwick and explain that there's nothing to worry about.
  3. Posted by Stephen Smith 14 on 05/11/2018 20:03:46: What oil and how much? Lol I don't really care. My club has done a bulk purchase from Weston for many years and none of us has ever had a problem. Used in 2 strokes and 4 strokes.
  4. Hi Martyn, it might be worth giving Weston UK a ring with the serial number of your engine and asking if it is one of the later upgraded examples. I have both an early 90 and one of the later ones and there is very noticable increase in power with the latter. I suspect an early engine would struggle a bit to fly your Fury, I use mine for flying vintage models, but the later example has flown a 13 pound model without problems using a 4 bladed prop.
  5. It's the 155 I'm after. I'll wait patiently.....
  6. I've just noticed that the 155 and 180 engines have disappeared from the Laser engines website. Hmmm.
  7. New engines? Quite frankly I'd be over the moon if I could buy any of the current ones.
  8. Posted by Martin Harris on 25/06/2018 16:46:31: Count yourself lucky then, Solly. I suspect all the negative comments are born from experience. I fully accept that. And so is mine.
  9. Can't understand the anti power panel comments. It's like saying I bought a faulty TV so all TV's are rubbish. I've had two, the first one lasted many years until the integral fuel pump began to leak. The second one is four years old so far trouble free. And the power panel blowing plugs? That's something I've never experienced.
  10. I wonder if there are any other modellers like me who are a bit concerned about the rather bitter and unpleasant views which are appearing on what should be a good humoured Model Aircraft forum. Perhaps it's time to go back to the original idea of discussing our hobby, as happens on other modelling forums.
  11. Posted by Peter Miller on 19/05/2018 08:37:31: I have had one of the earliest DX7s ever since they arrived in the country many years ago. Never had a glitch. Several others in our club, same story except for a DX8 which the owner has since sold. Same here. I still fly an original DX7 and also a new DX9. Both have been completely faultless.
  12. So it is. Well done Pat.
  13. Looks like a Morane Saulnier 230 to me.
  14. Don't send it off to Germany. Als Hobbies are now the official Spektrum service centre in the UK.

    RCV Engines

Yes, they were made in China, apparently the Chinese manufacturer imposed a minimum order quantity of 5000 units per engine size. Hence the move to India.

    RCV Engines

I have been told that manufacture of RCV engines is being transferred to an engineering company in India. Don't know when though.
  17. Like everyone else on this forum I can only speak from personal experience. I have used Spektrum radio since it's introduction into the UK with 4.8 volt rx batteries without any problems at all. Including in models with retracts and flaps. I check the batteries for capacity before each flying session and if I find one below par I try recycling it, then if that doesn't work I bin it. So I really don't see any need to change to 6 volts.
  18. It's my understanding that ions move from negative to positive inside the battery. But in the external circuit the electrons move from positive to negative, hence the anode is positive.
  19. I always understood that the parent company of JR Americas is Horizon Hobbies.....
  20. Just a thought. In terms of an NFC how does the UK compare with other countries like Germany or France. Are we the only country to have such a facility or are we just catching up?
  21. You're right of course Percy, it was handled very badly. However, hopefully lessons have been learnt and I for one will stick to using all my Spektrum gear, which so far has proved to be trouble free.....
  22. if you log in to Als Hobbies you will see the announcement informing you that they are now the official approved Spektrum Warranty and Service centre for the UK. Problem hopefully solved.
  23. They must have exported some to the USA. This is from a private collection and shows a three cylinder petrol radial.
  24. Posted by Jon Harper - Laser Engines on 28/10/2017 10:34:53: Posted by Solly on 28/10/2017 09:12:58: . If you have evidence to prove that Prosynth fuel damages your engines let us know what it is, then I for one will sit up and take notice. come on Solly. think about it. we aren't saying this for our health are we. Perhaps we know things you don't, and just perhaps its possible I cant really talk about it for a number of reasons. I'm stuck between being a modeller, and working for Laser. Those two don't always mix and I cant always tell the whole truth or discuss everything I know. Which is why I suggest you think about why we as a company, and myself personally (as someone who designs and builds model engines every day) don't recommend it. What could possibly make us take that fairly large step and commit to a fairly controversial course of action? As we are getting off the op I wont be commenting on the why any longer and stand by my original recommendations of techpower or laser 5. Optifuel is fine but messier than the other two, the Irvine fuels again wont damage the engine but do make a mess and I think are more expensive by a fair amount. These days I wouldn't touch castor at all and the OS 8 will be a perfect plug. I forgot, southern model craft fuels work fine too (I used it for years) but do not seem to have as long a shelf life as other fuels once the bottle is open. Not sure why, it just seems to go off a bit quicker. Point taken Jon, and obviously I accept your reasoning. It just seems rather frustrating to me to be told of the inadvisability of using a product I have used for years without problems. On another subject, when are you going to sort out the stock situation! I needed a 120 in a hurry recently and had to buy another make. Edited By Jon Harper - Laser Engines on 28/10/2017 10:37:19
