r6dan
Where does everyone get balsa from,It seems awfully expensive buying small amounts from the model shop, does anyone know of anywhere to by larger amounts of standard sizes?
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Hi Dan, I get my stuff from Balsa Cabin - try them here I like to buy it "in person" so I can feel the weight and density. So I tend to stock up at the shows. But of course they do mail order. BTW, good balsa isn't cheap anywhere. BEB
r6dan
Thanks BEB, Google didn`t find that place, but as you say it doesn`t seem to be cheep anywhere,I think shows will be the best bet, getting mail order could be a bit hit or miss. KeithT
I have bought from SLEC and have had well packaged orders, with good quality balsa.

Link works fine for me Dan - must be a net funny. Might be worth trying again. I do use SLEC as well - in my view not a lot to choose between them. Both give good service and sell quality Balsa in my experience. BEB
Danny Fenton
Another nod for Slec. Like others I like to select in person and check weight and grain etc. I buy some at every show so have a healthy stock of wood. I hate not being able to find the right wood in the middle of a build. Cheers Danny
simon burch
+1 for Slec. Balsa grades matched my order really well. Good packaging delivered to your door. Perfect serivce.

birdy
I too am a balsa cabin fan - I have been very satisfied with all my orders and they have been properly packaged... Just make sure you buy enough balsa to make the £10 post ok.
fly boy3
I always use Slec. Cheers FB3
Kevin Fairgrieve
SLEC Only 1/2 hour car journey away. And you get to go into the mill and select your own wood. I usually come out coverd in dust, and carrying a substantial amount of quality wood. Kev
r6dan
SLEC seems to be the place to gets me wood from then....right what can I sell......
Tim Hooper
Dan, The best advice might be to buy a balsa stripper and just buy balsa in sheets, so that you can strip your own. Failing that, a simple straight edge and sharp knife will do the job! tim
i12fly
Just make sure it is a nice wide straight edge..... I used to use a steel rule, until one day the end of my finger was just over the edge enough to require a hospital visit
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Balsa strippers - you can't beat them! Only cost a couple of quid from SLEC and you need never buy strip balsa again. Perfectly accurate cut every time - total consistentcy. I wouldn't be without mine. Doug Ireland
I don't have anywhere even remotely close to where I live to buy balsa so all mine comes from The Balsa Cabin. Can't fault their service.
