christopher small
What is the best way of cleaning model planes after flying, when they are covered in oil etc .And also when they have been in storage in the loft for several years, and not properly cleaned when put away.dust on oil . christopher small
Brill, should have plenty of those to try, better than my old spray bottle of water and fairy liquid.Could never find enough clean rags.
Tom Ruut
Instead of having that grotty oil soaked rag in the tool box,I have switched to paper towels on a roll with window cleaner.Toss them away when finished.

Grant Darnley
I feel old now, what with my fairy liquid and cut up old t-shirts LOL, need to invest in some modern cleaning technology
Tim Mackey
Modern cleaning technology - that'll be electric powered planes then
Martin McIntosh
Mr muscle is best, but my sprayer is now filled with cheapo diluted Tesco hard surface cleaner. Amazing how many Mr muscle bottles I now see at the field though! Do they do a spray Nitromors?! MM.
Peter Miller
I have been using Mr Muscle Kitchen Cleaner for years now, definitely the best.
Bob Cotsford
any of the Citrus style cleaners, such as Orange Clean, because the car smells nicer on the way home.
Chris Bradshaw
I've always used baby bum wipes on my planes. Sealable container and smells nice too. Heck, if it can remove that goo from a baby then oil will be no problem at all.
Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
Try car windscreen washer fluid......buy the concentrated stuff (Wickes £3.50 a gallon) & dilute it 50/50 into an old spray bottle shake, spray on, wipe off (cloth/kitchen wipe) nice & clean.....water gets rid of the mud, alcohol based fluid shifts the oil......!!! If really dirty, greasy & dusty (the model that is!!!!) then Dettol Spray & Mop is awesome.....antibacterial too...useful for the sheep poo!!!!IC models get dirtier than electric cos they're flown more...a quick refuel & they're off...not hanging around in the pits for an hour waiting for the batteries to charge....... Chris Channon
Hi, i have used surgical spirit for years to clean the crud off, only problem i have found that some of the cheaper ARTF covering colours do come off slightly but no real problem. After cleaning the airframe, i use good old mr sheen to bring back the shine. i have used surgical spirit for years as where we fly there are a lot of doggie walkers, most are really good about picking up the poo but you are never 100% sure of what the model has run through on take off and landing so this makes sure that there are no nasty infections taken home on the model after a days flying. Hope this helpsChris.
Tim Mackey
yeh, but then you have a real excuse to shout out ""that was a shit landing"
Tom Ruut
While we are on the subject of keeping goo off our planes,Does anyone have a way to secure silicone deflectors to the muffler.I keep on losing mine that have the supplied cable ties. Tim Mackey
Start with everything VERY CLEAN, use acetone or similar on the metal exhaust stub, and maybe kicker on the rubber tube. Leave to dry off, apply a small dash of CA, slide on quickly, then tiewrap. last s a bit longer, but frankly I too usually end up frustrated with the bloomin things. I know a guy who made a "wrap" of thin brass sheet to go over the rubber, then drilled a hole right through the lot, and used a selftapper to lock it all in place.
