leccyflyer
Saw this beautifully finished Silhouette at the Angus MFC fly-in yesterday and it left me really missing my old Silhouette - a marvellous model and would love to find an unstarted kit, if anyone has one knocking about that they would be willing to part with,
jeff2wings
Got a NIB kit off evil bay last year for less than £70 ! So there maybe more out there so keep looking or maybe one that's seen better days and refurbish it,they fly So well it's worth the effort 👍
Jon H
With a straight wing and simple lines it should be easy enough to clone the thing. All you need is one rib template for the foam wing, and the tail/fuselage side outlines off the original plans.
martin collins 1
Still flying mine, don`t think i`d ever sell it, other models come and go but the Silhouette is my go to for a quick fly in any conditions, still have an unbuilt in box as a back up. Yours looks super smart Jeff, love the colour scheme and spats. Latest model in foreground maidend last week but look who is lurking in the background 😁 Edited July 2, 2024 by martin collins 1

No plans with a Silhouette -they come with the fuselage already assembled - just a case of adding the tailplane, fin and veneered foam turtle decking, joining the wings and gearing up. For my electric conversion I cut a hatch in the top turtle decking. The lovely shape of the cowl also demands finding a proper kit - as you could see from this thread I practically gave my spare cowl away years ago - a schoolboy error on my part, but it did help to get another Silhouette back in the air, which is no bad thing. With your own set of plans in hand it would be easy enough to clone. I am sure the cowl can be copied as well. If anyone has one unused a mould could easily be made. PatMc
I don't know if mine was typical but the quality of the cowl was rubbish. A scratch built wooden or moulded cowl shouldn't be difficult to produce & as Jon says cloning the rest of the model from an existing kit (or even a salvaged write off) would be fairly easy. leccyflyer
Look what the Parcelforce man brought today. Happy bunny. 😎 It's an older kit than my original one - the instructions advise using a piece of 1/4" triangular stock to fair in the cockpit area between the top decks, where my original mid 90's version had a small fibreglass moulding. It's in perfect nick, all the bits are there and it should be a pretty quick build. This time I'll be sure to put the servo in the top of the wing, rather than underneath.
jeff2wings
Nice one leccy👍nearly put a bid on it myself but that would have just been greedy, just love flying mine !
leccyflyer
I'm delighted to have found one. I'll be making a plan of the parts and using the cowl to make a mould for a vac-formed, or possibly a lighter GF version - so I won't be without a Silhouette again.

jeff2wings
Maybe you or leccy could draw up some plans and add them on outerzone, if I hadn't been so excited about building one after so many years would have done it myself 😐
martin collins 1
Anyone else bringing their Silhouette along to the BMFA Buckminster Best Of British Fly in on the 28/29th September, would be good to get a few of them in the air together. 😁 I have just bought the moulds for the cowling and cockpit plus a load of the Silhouette decals that were being sold by a friend of the original manufacturer who has passed away. If anyone wants f/g or plastic mouldings or Silhouette decals pm me for prices. Apart from my Electric flyer i have two unbuilt kits (not for sale), i am going to build one up for a 4 stroke i.c, probably some sort of .52.
martin collins 1
The Silhouette got flown on the Saturday at the Best of British weekend at Buckminster, sadly the only Silhouette there. I am going to advertising this one which i have been flying for 5 or 6 years now and putting together a new one from one of my two kits, this one is all set up with motor/esc, servos etc and will just need a 4s lipo (i have been using a 3300mah) and a receiver. Monkee will be removed to go in the new model which is going hooligan mode with an E Flite 60 motor and 6s 😁, i will post some pictures up once it is underway. I will put this in the For sale section, i am looking for £100 for this one, good condition, never damaged, top hatch for the battery, a great model and superb flyer, i will be taking it to the Buckmonster swapmeet in two weeks time if someone wants to pick it up from there.

Hi Martin - I remember building one of these circa 1995 - great model and I love your interpretations of it ! On another note - I have recently acquired a Quest Models 'Stomper ' biplane which reminds me a lot of the Silhouette build and I note that you mentioned having one a couple of years ago ? I wondered how you had got on with it ,if you had built it , any building/flying tips and what engine you used in it ? I have just opened the box and started it , so any information would be very welcome Regards , Chris Layton
martin collins 1
Sorry Chris, too many kits, not enough time, the Stomper kit was sold on, looked like a simple build and a nice looking model, make sure you post some pictures of it once built.
