Paul C.
Another excellent job Tony 👍 can you give us some details on size, motor etc. Solid wing 😱 did you use a single servo in the fus. Paul.
Tony Cook
Hi Paul. Thanks for the kind feedback. All sheet wing 1/4" No ribs! 1/8" sides 3/16" tail & fin. 38inch span 40inch length. AXI2808/24 / 3s 2400 lipo / 10x 5.5 apc e prop. 40a esc/ 2lbs auw. Moulded my own canopy using pop bottle ( first attempt at this took 5 attemp?s). First flight was utterly uneventful couple of clicks of up was all. Flies really smooth..and lands a peach with the forward u/c. Will try and post video soon. Cheers for now. Peter Christy
Tony Bennett: That looks like a "Phoenix", a design that appeared in the American RCM magazine in the mid 60's. I think the published plan was something like the Mk 6 version of the design, as it took the designer a while to overcome the traditional problems with swept and tapered wings - particularly tip stalling! IIRC, he overcame that by making the tips thicker relative to the chord than the roots, and claimed it cured the problem completely. Never saw one in the flesh, but I always thought it looked right, and if the old adage is to be believed, it should fly right! Just watch out for any tip stalling issues when you test fly it! Try a few stalls at altitude first, as per full size! -- Pete
Tony Cook
Hi Paul, here's image of servos..in rear of fus just behind wing. Allowing loads of space up front and under canopy or battery esc & rx!!
Paul C.
Hi Tony, great idea to put the servos there . Built a whizza a few years back, that had sheet wings flew great and would also fly really slow without stalling. Paul.
brian ball 1
Hi all are we still using this site? no posts this year. brian
Martyn K
It has been rather quiet. My only contribution this year has been my Mama Mia. Seems to fly quite well despite its size..

Torsten Spitzner
My Saturn. Picked up and old unbuilt kit. FG fuselage and foam core wings. Not sure whether it is the original circa 1974 Saturn or the later Saturn SE version.
Chili Pants
One of the few Photo`s my father ever took, he was spectating at the Welsh open in the mid 80`s and helped one of the younger competitors carry his model and equipment back to his car. Engine is unknown, some of you may recognise the model, my father said it belonged to a young man who he thought would be a top competitor, Andy Nicholls........... Peter Jenkins
Gangster 75 from an unstarted kit, Super Tigre 90 and Hanno pipe. Not quite got the pipe on song but initial flights have proved that it is a great club aerobat.
Jamie Cuff
Have just found this thread, a lot of great work going in here. Classic pattern/retro models have always been of great interest to me, especially the 70's/80's period. I thought I would add a few pictures of my own classic aerobats that I have in my hangar at the moment. Some built by me, others bought second hand Other projects underway, and more waiting in line. Jamie Cuff
Hi Martyn, Was researching a subject and found this thread, full of good stuff. Your not wrong about the Racketeer! had a part built kit, which I sold and regretted it, then i was offered this by a friend a few months ago. I changed the engine from the ASP 53 to a OS 55 AX, changed a few things that I was not to keen on, 20 plus flights on it now. Sett up an album on my Facebook page for my models past and present, plenty more types in there. Funny you should post pictures of the Touche, I have the moulds in my workshop. Met John for a drink last night as well. ASH.
All beautiful models. I love the classic/retros, they look sleek.. like proper aeroplanes! I really like the Racketeer, the design and colour scheme are superb as with the Mama Mia. What green is that Jamie? And the Dusty Pink film Martyn? I have a semi-scale Seagull Piper Comanche with heavy oleos which I would like to replace with electric retracts. My main concern is with the nose retract. The front wheel obviously has to fit into a section of the wing. So I take it a cut out is made in the leading edge of wing? How then is the front of the wing held on to fuselage without dowels? And does this not weaken the structure to aerobatic stresses? How did you do it on your Flea Fli Martin? Martyn K
Ash first.. The pink is solar film pink. I have a mild vision problem and sometimes need all the help I can get. Jamie (and anyone else lurking), please come along to a UKCAA event. You don't need to be a member. We have great fun, very relaxed and the comps are getting much better support. All stress free. I bought the Touché fus last year and JP and Andy Green kindly provided me with enough info to complete the model. It's a lovely smooth flier and not stupidly fast. ASH.
Thanks Martyn, I'm the same with my eyesight. Struggle with orientation at a distance so prefer larger wingspan models nowadays. The pink is nice, suits a pattern model.
Martin McIntosh
Hi Ash, as you can see I had the same problem with the nose wheel. During the wing construction I reinforced the rear of the cut out with some light ply and fitted a carbon fibre dowel on each side. The whole lot was a very tight fit. Beware of HK steerable nose legs since I have yet to find one of theirs with the correct geometry, i.e. they twist to one side during retraction.
