Nev
Cracking on John, nice one it's looking good. I'm still faffing with the elevators, I seem to be making a bit of a meal of it but it's getting there.
john stones 1 - Moderator
Thanks Nev I said the fuzz was building light, and there is some to come off yet, and I don't care if you beat it i'm chuffed with that John
john stones 1 - Moderator
Also weighed t/plane, a little heavier I used a core to build on, happy with that though. John
Wiltshire Flyer
Great so far John! I'm certain there will be a definite "wow" on completion 😀
Nev
Hi John, if you do go to the museum can you see if you can get a shot of the elevator trim tab. I think I know how I'm going to do it (only simply nothing ott) but a photo would help. No problem if you don't, it won't hold me up for a few months yet. I may get there myself by then anyway. Nev. Danny Fenton
Everything I can find points to a single elevator trim/servo tab on the starboard elevator, the size is such that it stretches to rib 5.... Cheers Danny
AlexJ
Danny, looking at the elevators in that picture, seems like the ribs are evenly spaced. I have just glued mine on this evening, and it now strikes me, that the first gap is bigger on the plan. i will have to check these with fresh eyes, in the morning! While I think about it, shouldn't we be doing the top of the rudder with ribs, instead of solid? Alex
Danny Fenton
Hi Alex, I completely agree, the plan is not accurate. But it is what it is. If you want to move the ribs I see no problem with that, another trick is to put the rib tapes in the right place, and try to fool the observer. Yes the top of the rudder will need treatment to simulate the ribs and tapes. I discussed this with Kev I think on his thread, but well spotted Cheers Danny
john stones 1 - Moderator
Thanks for the picture it saves me going looking for it well it's dark out so I started the lower fuzz. Crutch pinned down carefully on the line so both halves match and formers highlighted so I don't miss any. John

john stones 1 - Moderator
Pictures don't get any better eh Then I started planking again, keep pinned down and work from both sides is how I do it, comes out straight for me. john stones 1 - Moderator
Anyone know what the incidence should be on wing and t/plane ? John
john stones 1 - Moderator
A few more strips to add to get past the hard curve then I can finish with a single piece of sheet at the rear end. John
Nigel Day
Roaring on with it John. Looking good.
Nev
Looking good John. How thick is the planking / sheet, it looks quite thin but maybe it's the camera angle.
john stones 1 - Moderator
Thanks lads Its 1/8 Nev I got some nice stuff at the nats. John
Nev
Yes I can see it taking up the curve, maybe that's why I thaught it was thinner.
john stones 1 - Moderator
No filler at all in the top shell, hope I get this bit the same. Need to decide on the tailwheel soon, you lads going with a fixed or steering ? John
Colin Leighfield
According to the maker's original information the wing incidence on the full size is 2 degrees. As they don't describe the figure for the tailplane separately I'm sure it's datum zero. Also worth noting that dihedral is 5degrees. They also describe the intention to build a DHC2 variant with side by side seating and space for a third seat behind, possibly with retractable undercarriage. Clearly that came to nothing, as did the plan to build a jet trainer version.
