john stones 1 - Moderator
Thanks Terry, have to make a glider as well then Absolutely Percy, I've had some great ARTFs but flying what you have built takes some beating. John
Nev
Nice scheme, that will look good in the air. looks more suited to a good acrobatic routine than glider towing, bet that's what he does on his day off !
john stones 1 - Moderator
I just noticed all the gliders in the picture I feel a letter coming on to a certain gliding club. Unless some very helpful forum member happens to live close by Will look good in the air Nev it's simple but effective John
Martin Harris - Moderator
I hope you realise that it's a "Supermunk" - a Chipmunk fitted with a Lycoming flat 4 engine and has a totally differently shaped engine cowling. It was a relatively popular conversion for glider towing as the Gypsy Major is a little lacking in power to tow heavier 2 seaters and ballasted single seaters, as well as becoming difficult to source certain engine spares for. To my mind, the conversion rather spoils the lines of a beautiful aeroplane but it does have its practicalities...
john stones 1 - Moderator
No Martin I never realised I could always put the Gypsy back in though and revert back to original cowl John
Danny Fenton
Most of the older hands will already know this John, but be careful when you go "off plan" this is where time gets eaten up. If you want to do something different eg cowl or canopy just beware of the time consequences. A prime example is the oleos. We have moved away from plan and the ones I have picked are going to need modifying easy enough for me I have a lathe but maybe not for some CheersDanny
john stones 1 - Moderator
Nice to be labelled one of the youngsters Danny keep it up am not going off plan, just considering artist license on colour sheme John

Silver Wolf
Although not done much building lately, maybe just the excuse I need to get a small lathe? May need to split building time between a couple of projects just to get them out of the way but intend to build chippy alternate weeks.
