Danny Fenton
Just double checked my drawing WITH MY GLASSES ON and it does indeed say the dihedral is 5 degrees, sometimes I shouldn't be trusted to cross the road alone..... Cheers Danny
Colin Leighfield
John, I've got the book. Danny, you just answered your question! Glad the two sources of information confirm each other. It was interesting to read that they originally planned to do a side by side two seater version, then lost the chance of the Australian contract because they didn't do it. Nev
Looking very good John cold or not. I started with cold 3 weeks ago and only just getting over it, so sympathise I've got a weekend of decorating to look forward to now so not much building will get done this weekend either. But browny points in the bank are worth having it might stop the "are you ever going to fly All these aeroplanes" comments for a while. A.A. Barry
John, the problem I have is cutting the strips parallel, altho I have a "balsa stripper", they tend to vary in size down the length, there must be a secret to using it. (4 hands holding down the sheet) Cheers barry
john stones 1 - Moderator
I cut planks with a long ruler and scalpel Barry, the trick with the stripper is don't be to aggressive, go over a few times if needs be. John
A.A. Barry
Yes JOhn, I have reverted back to the ruler method, does a better job, the ones I have done have been locked inbetween to pieces timber and sanded flat, so as not to waste them Cheers barry
john stones 1 - Moderator
Not much to say today, I had to give myself a good talking to fiddly stuff like the hinges and bellcranks I usually duck but not this time, ordered from Slec so I know they are accurate. I cut a few ribs out and used datum line to add jigging tabs. John
john stones 1 - Moderator
Still not started wing, but only the doublers and braces to cut now, not a lot of fun to do However, now I have cut the parts, the build don't look so bad , may be a few expletives when I get to the hinges though Single servos and bellcranks for me, piano wire through nylon tube in ribs (less slop little weight) and ball and socket at servo with differential on, hope I don't get it wrong way round...been a while since I've done it mechanically. U/C as plan, I can cut off later if I go with oleos, no lighting on mine so i'm adding a few webs instead. John
Nev
I've never used bell cranks, well not since flying control line, so was going for separate servos but like you I've gone around the houses a bit and then decided to go with the plan. Hopefully this time I will take more care and build them without any slop, unlike 40 years ago ! Parts look good John, soon get to the fun bit. A.A. Barry
Nev, like you, it's yrs since I've used bellcranks, I think I'll stick with direct coupling with servo's I feel there is less resistance, easier to instal and set up. Are you going to add greater strength to the U/C mount plates/ribs?? Barry
john stones 1 - Moderator
I want one of these one day Nev so i'm sticking with the scale methods John
Danny Fenton
Ambitous young Jedi never really fancied the 190 but that short nosed variant looks very brutal and purposeful..... maybe one day I can be turned to the dark side Cheers Danny
Nev
I think your flying skills must be better than mine John. Always wanted to build a decent ME 110 though, maybe after this I will have a proper look at finding a plan. Personally I'm going to leave the u/c as is, no strengthening, I'm trying to get into the scale mind set and not keep trying to build a Sunday hack. And yes I have changed my mind since yesterday! john stones 1 - Moderator
Have done a lot of flying Nev, 190's are well mannered for a warbird nice to fly I am only adding a little not going mad with it on the u/c It's got beautiful shape n attitude Danny, I love it John
Charles Galloway
I remember many years ago Brian Woods flying his BrianTaylor 190 at our club field. It's a small model by today's standards but flew really well. I have the plan and think the retracts don't look too bad to get right. Maybe Danny could lead us in a build of that one. He likes his BT models.
john stones 1 - Moderator
I built it Charles and sold it to a club mate 60 1/2 span I think ? with mechanical retracts ? enjoyable build but I want a bigger one. I keep eyeing the Meister scale one up John
